Is there somewhere a description of what we can do with each animal?
Also, how can I cook their meat and eat it? I tried the furnace, but it didn't work

@4aiman sorry I didn't have time to check it I'll answer as soon as possible
@legumev mobf doesn't contain much options to do with it's harvest or kill results. I intended to make this an option for additional mods.

what are the big purple balls that explode?
Can I kill them? how?
Can I disable them?

After I poured a bucket of water over the fire at my house, how can I stop the water flowing?

Is possible disable this mob in the menu. You call the menu with the command /mobf_settings.

About the water, get back the water source with a bucket.

Last time I had mobf installed I could run up on them quickly and hit them with a pick axe to kill them.

Hi sapier, I just wanted to ask how many hearts animals have, it seems to take forever to kill any animal.
In minecraft its so easy to kill animals with even a stone sword and I find myself hitting a zombie for what seems like an hour to kill it. So please could you make them easier to kill? Thanks xx

you need to understand that fighting is fundamentaly different in minetest:
while you can just bash your lmb in minecraft you have to time your attacks precisely. watch your right arm, when the sword is low you wont do any kind of damage, if its lifted a bit you will deal a bit of damage but for the full amount you need to wait untill its fully risen

Also I play this at school and we can't have the mobs is there a way to remove them without getting all sorts of errors. (I can do simple programming if needed)

No textures load(except chickens and eggs), and when I go to my inventory the game crashes (might be an Inventory Plus problem). I will get the next update if you're still working on this mod, but I'm removing it for now.

Mobs in this mod have about 40 HP. If you're using wooden sword, then... yes, with perfect timing it'll take about 40 seconds to kill a single cow. So either you need a better weapon (doesn't help that much) or reduce mobs HP in the scripts. I've raised this question some time ago, but can't remember if there was any answer from Sapier on that point ;)

Search "hp =" (without the quotes) with a text editor and edit the values after the = (values are in half-hearts).

That part is easy. 'animals' is not really a single mod; it is a modpack, consisting of 'mobf' and a bunch of other mods, many of which contain one or more animals/monsters. I believe they are all organized pretty well according to the name of the creature(s) they contain. So just look at the names of the mod directories inside the modpack and remove them as you like. You might also want to look at each mod's "depends.txt" file and make sure you aren't removing something that another mod depends on. For example, looking at "animal_cow/depends.txt" I can see that it depends on "animalmaterials", so I'd better not remove "animalmaterials" unless I am also going to remove "animal_cow".

IIRC there might have also been a way in the mod itself to blacklist certain types of creature, but you'll have to look through its code and/or documentation and perhaps the rest of this thread to figure that out.

Sorry I've been busy for a while,

I guess 40 hp is a little bit misleading, each mob has it's own specific health, a cow for example is a healthy an strong animal so it got 40hp, a sheep on the other side is much smaller and has 10hp. Someone already suggested looking in source, if you want to know exactly how much health a animal has look for base_health in source code. Development branch introduces health bars but be warned it's not quite stable.

removing animals: while the "delete" method described above will work, I strongly encourage using "/mobf_settings" gui as kaeza suggested. This is a settings menu where you can disable mobs and do some other settings, e.g. make mobf remove remainings of disabled mobs. Be warned once you disabled and removed mobs they may not reoccur in already generated worlds.

And once again, all those questions have been answered more than once in this thread. While not everything told at some time might be still valid, plz read some pages back before complaining about things that are already possible!

@4aiman health of hostile mobs has been reduced as requested, friendly animals have (sometimes) more health to avoid having them killed by accident to often.

How do I put the animals in the barns?

PostPosted: Mon Mar 11, 2013 12:38

I have some problems with the tamed wolf:

1. It has difficulties going up stairs
2. It gets embedded in earth blocks etc.
3. it doesn't follow me when I go for a longer walk: is there a max distance from its spawn location?
4. Sometimes, it disappears completely

Is there a better "dog" mod?

PostPosted: Mon Mar 11, 2013 17:22
by prestidigitator
I haven't figured the barns out yet either. I'll probably take a look at the code and try to figure out what's supposed to be going on.

As for the wolf, that's hardly the only strange behavior you'll run into. Often the creatures disappear (like a whole yard full of cows and chickens) only to (sometimes) reappear later. Sometimes (though this might have been fixed since 0.4.4) you'll find two animals stuck together, or one stuck with a dropped item. Once I saw a bird and a sheep stuck together, and I swear the sheep jumped over a fence and flew away!

Regarding the barn, I just dropped it in the yard where I keep my animals, and they started to reproduce, I had to remove it as I couldn't keep up with the slaughtering.

The name is a misnomer, you don't put animals in the barn: the barn is no bigger than a block.
The animals in the vicinity of the barn will start to reproduce.

As legumev already said, the barn is more a kind of feeding place. You put leaves into it, and animals passing by start to reproduce. I havn't found a way to keep chicken fenced in - they even travel through solid blocks.

With the newest dev version on GitHub (d10223254a) this modpack seems to keep the server from starting. It hangs forever on the black "Creating server..." screen. Removing the modpack allows the game to start normally.

(EDIT: Reproduced in both Linux and Windows 7, both in a world with plenty of animals from a previous build of the game and a brand new world created from scratch.)
