Well, the key "d" gives the "Here could be your skin!"-box a black background, all other keys do not do anything.

Gonna use firefox for this then...

make a blender model wich supports it without breaking the old skins and than its possible to convert it to that page too. :-)

First, it would have to be understood how the skins are drawn onto the models. If that is done by some sort of naming or numerical method, the the extra mesh layer will have to have new names and new numbers.

Another way is to create a secondary player model for that purpose (which would only appear if certain skins need it.)

I am certain that there are a few talented modelers in this community. Anyone care to try? A player model with secondary meshes on all of its parts (not just the head) allows for things like capes, dresses, togas, and generally better clothing. There are many benefits to come from such a model. Consider the possibilities, possibilities, possibilities, possibilities...

another update:
  • updated x3dom from 1.5.1 to 1.6.0 -dev
  • maybe it has now IE11 support (not testet :-P)
  • default viewmode is now "turnable" it should be now easier to rotate the skin
  • the toolbar is now a bit bigger (for those people wich have a touchscreen and big fingers ;-))
  • also the player model tries to fit into whole screen (for those people that have a realy big or a realy small screen)
  • it loads per default 20 skins per page
  • added a button settings where users are able to modify the the turnable parameters (for thos wich have already trouble to rotate the skin try: min: 1.5 ; max: 1.6; this should work better;-))

I did use the site, and it did work in IE 11. With touch.

Owait, sorry, it was Firefox Aurora with touch. I'll test it with IE 11 if I fire it up later today.

hmm imo 5 secounds loadtime are ok.

can you describe what you mean by "lag"?
does the rotation of the player model is sometimes hang?
or is the scrolling through the skins too laggy?
or does the pageload takes too long?

if the player model is hanging may it helps a look at the fps:
click settings and then click "show/hide Stats" on my laptop its between 11 and 59.
sometimes it hangs, but this is may just because the 1.6.0-dev version

also the whole page has enough code that can optimized :/ im working on it! :)

I mean the lag of my webgl. Where do I find the mentioned settings?
I showed the two screenshots of the loading time because I thought you could use this information to optimize the page.

at this icon: Imagein the toolbar.

thanks for postin that screens. it says me that the breaks are at x3dom.js, ajax.js,getskins.php also by moving the creative commons images to my host could be save a half secound.

update:
the skin database now supports the new capes skins from the upcomming minetest 0.4.10

TO ALL PEOPLE WICH ALREADY USED THE SKIN DATABASE:

i looked through the skins and found some skins that have some pixels at the back now. maybe its now on the time to update these skin files and upload a new version, just use the report function and report invalid skin file. post the link of the updated version there.

thanks
addi

PS:
+ some "invalid" skins listed here:

I need your oppinion about that much skins wich that pixels at the back where the skins are:
Image

  • could this be a copyright mark of a minecrap Skin Database? and if yes from wich one? and should i delete that files, because they are maybe stolen?
  • or ist it a mark of a author wich created all that skins?
  • or could it be that this is a failure of the method the skins are uploaded?
  • or is it generated by a minecrap skin editor?

lets start a discussion about that!

my opinion is that this could be createed by a minecrap skin database. whats your opinion?

Maybe they use these pixels to let the skins look more realistic. Please don't tell me that you don't have that at your body, it would be weird if I was the only one.

^^
the mysterious thing is that many skins have this pixel on the same place with the same colors. so it looks more like a copyright mark

and before somebody is asking: no, i have no copyright marks at my body :-)

I think that I will be redoing my Samantha (or Female Sam ;) Now that capes are going to be official, I think I will give her floating hair... Will have that done later.

Edit: Here is the link. Could you please change her to this skin: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gqkyzv4yf2scc ... ipbenr.png Changed to floating "cape hair" and added some more details/ smoothed out some things.

Edit2: Could you rename her to Samantha I? I will be making a sister for Sam II, and she will be Samantha II

See tutorials on making Minecraft skins. We use exactly the same format.

The skin is basically a UV map. You can get editors for it. You can use GIMP (or similar) to edit it.

Suggestion: The database should provide at least one copyfree license, such as WTFPL or CC0. All the provided licenses, even CC-BY, are too restrictive for my taste.
