Just make a modpack folder for your subgame specific/experimental mods inside the common mods dir. Minetest allows for the selection of individual mods within a modpack so long as the subgame doesn't have a duplicate of the mod there should be no problem.
Well I use mobs_redo for my survival worlds, but this is what I want for creative. Just cute animals grazing and milling about. I hope you can work in animal sounds.

I put all my texture thru OptiPNG and haven't had any PNG errors since. The visuals don't seem to have suffered any that I can tell. Took less than a minute for all default Minetest Game images.

@Xisd: check Backpacks by everamzah its a similar mod but fits a bit better the 16px look. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Prestibags has though.
