I'm leaving minetest

I have joined minetest development back in 2015, and helped shape the engine for about 2 continued years. I have learned many useful things during that time, and minetest has, I hope, improved due to my contributions. Now I am leaving development. About the reasons of my departure: Judging the PRs p...

Re: [Linux/Flatpak] Flatpak preview builds

The ppa itself can't be utilized, as its a different technology, but you can set the minetest and minetest_game repos to a different commit. This though will require updating some hashes, etc. It has to be repeated each time you will want to get an update, so is not the most simple way to update.

Re: [Linux/Flatpak] Flatpak preview builds

v1.0 in the path should be changed to v2.0

Thanks! I'll change it.

You will have to do "flatpak uninstall --user net.minetest.app" before installing the new version. The settings should be preserved, as they reside in ~/.minetest.

Re: [Linux/Flatpak] Flatpak preview builds

Okay, now the flatpak was updated to the Minetest 0.4.15 release. Enjoy! But when the game is running, after several minutes im disconnecting and can see this error message in the logs : This looks like a network problem, but in theory it should have the same network quality in your self compiled so...

Re: 0.4.15 Not installing? Xubuntu 16.04

I've started the build, you should have an update available in about half an hour. Then just update the package, it should get it automatically.

Re: Looking For a Hand with Swords

I think you want to set enable_pvp to false in minetest.conf. Then swords become harmless.

Re: password encryption [solved]

For increased security, make sure the send_pre_v25_init option is flipped to false, which is the default in the dev version, but 0.4.14 still defaults to true.

Re: SteamOS and SteamController?

Minetest should be possible to install on SteamOS, but its not on steam, so stuff will be a bit harder unfortunately. First enable generic support to install packages from debian (maybe substitute jessie with testing, as testing may contain more up to date packages): http://steamcommunity.com/groups...

Re: Compiling Windows Binaries on Linux Problem

You can simply disable ncurses if its too much trouble. ncurses is only used for headless server operation. Most likely you won't need it.

Re: Portable Minetest

I've made a flatpak build script for minetest. Using it one can create a build that works for all distros that support flatpak. https://github.com/est31/minetest-flatpak

Re: Twitter [Poll]

It would be cool to have a minetest twitter account, but it should be as official as possible. Meaning that access to it shouldn't be lost after whoever volunteered to control the account lost interest and doesnt care about minetest anymore. At least two trusted community members should have access,...

Re: Remove nodes when a mod is disabled?

You can use LBMs for that, they were designed for use cases including this. You'd need to write a mod for it of course.

Re: Mouse scrolling out of control

Technically it is possible, yes, by using speical API functions that allow pointer capture and receiving relative events instead. These APIs are only exposed to applications though that directly talk with wayland, not to applications that talk with wayland over XWayland, like minetest does. So it is...

Re: Minetest will not load on android

Can you look into the logcat?

Just saying this to everybody asking for android build help: if you build minetest in order to re-brand it and put it onto the play store, you must follow the LGPL license, including having you to open source the engine part (mods are unaffected).

Re: Misc Problems with MT 0.4.14 on Ubuntu 16.04

zak1975, so the problem with the gyro sensor remains, even after a restart of minetest and joysticks being disabled? If yes, can you try an earlier engine commit, like commit 14ef2b445adcec770defe1abf83af9d22ccf39d8 ? I don't know about the resize bug. Are you using unity? Can you get supertuxkart a...

Re: Can't connect to any remote servers with 0.4.13+ client

This seems to relate to reorder early in the init process: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/4138

At least I know how to fix it, but I want to have a full theory of how the bug happens before I call my PR ready for merge.

Re: How are the passwords hashed in auth.txt?

No, you have to compare the verification keys, but you must not let it autogenerate the salt, but use the salt provided to the program. That's your problem I think.

Re: How are the passwords hashed in auth.txt?

YuGiOhJCJ your code is failing in srp_user_process_challenge because you set a salt param of NULL. The salt needs to be known by that function. It doesn't crash anymore if the salt gets used from above. I have no idea however why it then still doesn't work. I see some confusion around name/name_for_...
