Re: Should we rename Minetest? (poll)

Sergey wrote:It's simple. If names do not fit, let's use other langauges.

gorniak is transliterated from of горняк, which means miner in Russian.
Here root is гор-. Гораmountain.

Interesting idea.

Note that it doesn't work correctly yet, see previous posts.

You could use the mod storage api to store settings.

Client-sided mods

You will need to wait for someone to add a way to get the name of the local player or ask the user to enter it. Checking which player sent a chat message is kinda messy right now, due to the way minetest sends the chat to the client.

Re: Client-sided modding: Good or bad?

The document is based of the server scripting api doc. The register alias section should be removed. Formspecs created on the client are separated from formspecs sent to the client by the server. However you shouldn't trust formspec data sent to the server by the client, Minetest Games doesn't and i...

Re: [Clientmod] Oredetection [oredetect]

[Insulting bullshit] Is this an official statement endorsed by the whole dev team or is it just you being offensive? I can't point to lines that do not exist. That’s what I was asking for: A general description on what CSM is and what it not is. Instead you go around and blatantly insulting your us...

Re: Client-sided modding: Good or bad?

Anyway since you asked for a full list of cheats possible in minetest in general, here is one: fly (requires making a single function return true, iirc there is an open PR that is meant to stop it) noclip (same as above, iirc there is an open PR that is meant to stop it) wireframe (same as above, cl...

Re: Client-sided modding: Good or bad?

Making minetest only send the surface nodes is possible but you have to ask yourself is the extra load on the server and the time it will that to add that worth stopping a few cheaters? It is also likely to make the experience worse for honest players that just have a bad connection.

Re: Edit Mod

You might want to update your minetest version, as 0.4.13 is quite old right now. The current version is 0.4.15 and 0.4.11 is the oldest version supported.

Re: [Clientmod] Oredetection [oredetect]

So will server owners be able to prevent this mod from use on their server? I am very sorry I asked this question. Re: Client-sided modding: Good or bad?

An announcement would just build unnecessary hype. Client-sided modding isn't meant to fix all issues minetest has just off load some of the graphics and ui stuff to the client. Yes the start of the doc is copied form the server documentation but the api list is accurate. You could also read the dev...

What again is your problem? The lack of communication to the users about CSM. The lack of any security features regarding CSM. The lack of proper documentation for CSM. The lack of a function for server owners to disable CSM. etc. CSM can't even send anything to the server. It can't dig a node. It ...

Re: [Clientmod] Oredetection [oredetect]

I mean if a server owner doesn't bother to install a protection mod then yes. but that has nothing to do with CSM. So all server owners worldwide have to install 3rd party protection mods because MT devs do not care about protecting the modding API against cheating? So ... yeah ... I really don't u...

Re: [Clientmod] Oredetection [oredetect]

But its not really a big deal cause there are no real survival servers anyway. I wonder if privilege escalation (or circumvention) is possible. Griefers then could plaster a server's spawn with giant cobblestone phalli. I mean if a server owner doesn't bother to install a protection mod then yes. b...

Re: Nore's personal TODO list

you can use core.get_mod_storage() to get a copy of the object (it must be run at startup ). You can then use the same functions as http://dev.minetest.net/NodeMetaRef . For an example of how to use CSM + modstorage you can take a look at my chatlog mod

[clientmod] formspec editor [debugger]

This is a port of viewtopic.php?f=9&t=16594 by octacian modifed to work on the client.
This is mostly a proof of concept for porting certain types of mods to the client, so it might not work as expected.
You can download it form.
