The error you posted is directly from irrlicht. When using the qwerty keyboard layout, numpad numbers other than 039 don't work - they are used as if numpad is off. That doesn't have to do with facedir (whole-node rotations) but with nodeboxes, where you can have a single node being made out of multiple rectangular prisms.
