There are also LOD methods as mentioned here, but it is using different stuff than minetest, so it might not be pratical.
This using polyvox, which is designed for holding and using voxel data.

Why bother with worrying about minecraft skins? this isn't minecraft and trying to force it to be minecraft is limiting to this engine. Why the heck not use the engine to make a skyrim type of game? anyways..... here is my stab at a new player model....almost rigged using a standard rig from Carnegi...

I think keeping a blocky style would be good, but to give the play elbows and knees and proper animations to make it different. maybe a few more polies to get a slightly more rounded look, but still very low poly. With careful unwrapping, minecraft skins should be usable as well. I wonder if the foc...
