You need to make sure anyone trying to connect to the server is using the correct port as well as the correct LAN IP address. Even if you have the right IP, if the port number is wrong then a computer won't be able to connect. You may need to make sure that the Windows (or other) firewall software i...

Press Windows Key+E to open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer). Locate Minetest folder in the "Program Files" and drag that Minetest folder to the C: drive. So Minetest folder should now be located at C:\minetest-0.4.6\ directly (no "Program Files"). Or as someone else suggested try dragging t...

The mods used are dictated by the server, not by your client. Your client always downloads the mods it needs from the server you connect to in order to be able to run a game.

One thing to watch out for is that if you've created any locked doors or locked chests (or anything else that pertains to a specific player) in the singleplayer mode, then when running the game as a server those items will belong to "Singleplayer", so your new character won't be able to use them. No, not at all. No Minetest builds for these systems means people using those systems won't be able to play without compiling themselves or installing a new OS, and so most of them would probably just give up. Not having a Facebook page just means that they need to go to minetest.net to get informa...

I don't really agree that that's the case. The only real promotional advantage of social networking sites is word of mouth from friends, and I don't think that's made any better by a page for the topic existing on the social networking site. Whether a page exists or not, people on Facebook who like...

I think it is a great idea to get it going again, and to have some people start making some youtube videos. MineCraft developer is calling it quits and coming to join the Minetest team... that is how likely it is that Facebook is going to die any time soon.

I would always say more exposure is better, in the context of an open source project but that's just my opinion.

I would like to see animals as a default and hostiles as optional. I'd like to see more animals too, not just sheep, but cows, pigs (BACON!) and maybe horses to ride! Hostiles are fun and would definitely add something to the game, but sometimes you just want to build and not have to worry about get...

So is the static_spawnpoint is global for all worlds, or is it world specific if you do it in-game?

I guess the only argument I can think of for having a dedicated "Single Player Mode" is that less technically adept users may be very confused by the idea of "setting up" a server to play a game with only one person. I guess it's not a big deal.

Incorporating Updates into Existing Worlds

With Minetest still very much in heavy development, I'm curious to know how people who host public servers keep up-to-date without trashing their existing worlds. I guess to people who plan singleplayer or LAN games, like myself, this is just as applicable though. I get that many new features "just ...

Convert Singleplayer game to Server game

As the subject says, is there a way to take a singleplayer game and make it playable as a server (either LAN or public)? Primarily, the biggest issue is assigning owners to objects like locked chests and doors. If I take a singleplayer game and play it on a LAN, then locked chests belong to "singlep...

Thanks for the responses. After I posted, I noticed a forum section dedicated to custom user game modes, so I was kinda able to piece it together from there.
