Make it a pull request; it seems fine and that way it gets more attention.

num_processed_meshes: The engine generates geometric meshes from MapBlock data for drawing. This is the number of those meshes that finished generating in each frame. mainloop_sleep: If the game runs at a faster rate than wanted_fps, a sleep is inserted into each frame after drawing in order to not...

Why don't we just say that minetest is using a rolling release model and the version numbers just serve as indicator for server compatibility. Because the unstable version is allowed to have problems which would be immediately prioritized to be fixed in a stable version. For example, currently ther...

From the standpoint of the engine, this actually is a no-brainer. The engine, in fact, calls them subgames internally. 8)

In how many places are these even called games? Do we have to change, like, the name of one forum section and one wiki page?

One alternative is to rename the MapBlocks of the engine to something else. I browsed a thesaurus for the first time on this issue and came up with one, and only one word, that would be acceptable: Segment. That word is descriptive, doesn't sound bad, isn't used anywhere yet (unlike chunk, which in ...

4. One general question, more for the developers: where is the game headed to? I can see stated in many places what minetest is NOT (e.g. minecraft). But what is it? Or what do you guys want it to be? BTW, you are doing an excellent work here. IMO the direction of the game is too vague I guess I, b...

Which brings me to both the good news and the bad news. I have found the source of the slowness. You see, Minetest stores player data in files. It keeps these files loaded in RAM at all times. The more player accounts there are, the slower the server runs. And here's the worst part about that syste...

Is it possible that a node can only digged with a specific tool e.g. :
I want to have node that you can only dig with a mithril pick.
You should be able to do this by using an item group for the node that isn't used in other nodes and set that group to be breakable in the tool's ...

Updating to git? I'm reluctant to do that Why do all the new people hate git?! -_- I don't hate git. I want as close to stable running server as possible. It is my understanding that git is the development release, and I don't hear anyone refering to it's stability. This is completely true. Everyon...

Horrible new sounds

Recently, in some unimaginable way, some terrible new sounds ended up in minetest_game. The grass and sand walk sounds are so much worse than before that I've had to, for the first time ever, use Minetest's ability to turn off sounds. Propose better sounds here. If such is not found, I'll put back t...

I found some Lua code that serializes functions, etc..., but it can't serialize coroutines. However, coroutine serialization would be a very powerful feature for coding mods. Function and coroutine serialization is really painful when trying to do stuff that has any kind of cross-version compatibil...

Well, back when I started playing Minetest, it was a short Irrlicht example source file. It had a mesh spinning at the middle of the window. I thought it was boring and figured out how to generate and render an editable voxel world in it and then it got pretty fun. I think it was around October 2010.

I don't really think this should be a sticky or anything though. It's just a suggestion like anything else. Chances are we don't rename anything to anything. If I started a new project to be what Minetest is now, I'd maybe use derpxel or buildat or minegap. 8) But Minetest is good too.

Why can't people just let others do what they want? Modders have no requirement whatsoever to stick to *any* theme, any mechanics or really anything. (Except law.) Including some independent games (not developed by the core team) to the main distribution could be discussed some day. There are at lea...

I request that while this does exist and however much you hate the core team, do not stop making pull requests to minetest/minetest. That wouldn't do any good to anyone.

There never was a plan to make a fork, the plan was to add a worthy feature to this game, if it weren't for the obstructionist attitudes of it's lead developers. I still don't understand what you expect. Do you expect me to ban hmmmm from everywhere and put you in the place of him? Do you understan...

You and hmmm are meant for each other.

Maybe (except that I don't like him always either), but I'd seriously like to see whether you are able to make and maintain a worthy fork.

Stop whining and already go making your fork. And good luck with it. This is the, frankly, sour attitude that causes this friction and incommunication. I don't even know what he is asking about, and such doesn't seem to be contained in this discussion at least. Maybe you should make a clear proposa...

To be perfectly honest, I didn't ask for hud, and have no mod ideas in mind for it. Nor does it make my worlds more interesting, since i F1 + F2 before taking screenshots. That doesn't mean I have to knock it, since i know many modders do want that feature, but i don't see why I should drop what I ...

It's more about extending than fixing. Implementing the missing sutff in it is not a small thing to do.

You seem to consider the "core team" to be some oddly distant thing. And because of that, you want to work around the core team. I consider this ridiculous and irresponsible. 2 reasons: Some of core devs ignore player's wishes and their inexperienced help. The way I think of this problem is that th...

C++-side mods that can make powerful changes outside the API. These would need to be installed client-side if need be, but would have a good amount of access to the environment by way of the proper access levels being given to the instances of server, client, etc objects. Are you thinking somebody will just invent and personally give those "independent developers" some "plat...
