Re: Death of flowers and grass

Thank you for replying Gael. You're right of course, "completely covered" was an exaggeration but they do end up behaving like weeds. If you know a little LUA language and Minetest technical features, it's not very difficult. I had never even heard of LUA before I tried compiling my own Mi...

Re: Sandy caves

The RNG is actually supplied by your operating system, not the game. So yes, every one's game will be slightly different. In Fedora 19 you needed root priveledges to access RNG. This showed up badly if you loaded a few hundred songs into VLC and clicked the shuffle button, it would randomly choose a...

Re: Sandy caves

I've put this one down as one of the many vaguaries of the mad god RNG, also known to some as rand(). I've tried and tried and can't get a repeat of the world that was created yesterday morning, but I'm going to keep playing it for a while because I've never had another map like it. To add a little ...

Re: Sandy caves

OK, something wierd is going on here. Started a new map with the details from above just to make sure I hadn't mis-typed anything and when I got to the lava pit there was no sand. It's the correct map seed but there's a few subtle differences and I can't understand why. Check the two screenshots. I ...

Death of flowers and grass

This is really a Feature Wish. When you've been playing the same map for a while the grasses and flowers keep reseeding more flowers and grasses but they never die. Eventully the whole landscape is completely covered. My suggestion/wish is that flowers and grasses get a random length of life. If you...

Sandy caves

It's amazing how many differences a small change can make. I started messing around with mapgen options in the config file because there's too many caves for my liking. On some maps there's hardly anywhere you can dig without coming across them. In fact on some maps there's hardly anywhere to dig. S...

Re: Idea (probably bad)

Or run as a server and invite folks to visit without interact. If only I could, I live in a remote area with what's possibly the worlds worst service provider. Sometimes I get up to 1200 kbps and sometimes I only get a small burst every 3 or 4 minutes. I reckon if they actually sent someone out to ...

Thank you.

Thank you to everyone involved in the Minetest project. You have produced something truly wonderful. Minetest reminds me of the old classic NetHack. Not just because it's portable and playable on almost anything but because the scripts are so beautifully laid out and maintained. You can easily recon...

Re: Compile question

Thanks for the feedback Zeno. Is there any way to tell when the problem is fixed? I've been reading through the GitHub and haven't noticed anything about it yet. It's not terribly important, I'm just trying to put together a completely stand alone version for a few people who don't have the internet...

Re: Compile question

Update: playing around looking for a downloadable version of minetestc55 I found this: https://launchpad.net/~damien-moore/+archive/ubuntu/minetest/+packages Damien Moore's version of Minetest 0.4.10 for Ubuntu. It compiled and played perfectly with no wierd lighting effects. Maybe comparing the two...

Re: Compile question

Thanks for the response Zeno. I tried to reproduce the torch problem you were having and couldn't do it. Maybe the version I'm running is just old enough. I'm running Celeron55's version downloaded on 20th of November. I did notice that the new version has different textures (which I don't like), co...

Compile question

When I compile from latest source I get strange shadows and funky lighting underground. This doesn't happen with the official precompiled binaries or with C55's version, only when I compile it myself. I have shaders and smooth_lighting enabled so I must be missing something else somewhere in there. ...

Re: Can we change the quote on the Minetest.net homepage

Hi Everyone, This thread sure shifted topic. Thought I'd weigh in with my two bob. I don't think the swearing is nescessary but (as is currently the case) I don't think it should be censored either. If that's how you wish other people to perceive you then that should be your choice. As proof that sw...

Re: Idea (probably bad)

Hi Evergreen, thought I'd try my own idea out just to see how it goes. When zipped my world is just over 7 Mb or roughly the size of the page you just sent me to. Yeh, stupid, but the name of my world is "Mods Now". Minetest version 0.4.10 animals Modpack moreores Mod It's a glass house wi...

Idea (probably bad)

There's a few threads devoted to posting pics and videos of people's games. Why not post a zipped copy of their World files instead? Then everyone could have a run around and take a proper look at what they've built. I guess they'd have to list what version and what mods they were running so that ot...

Re: Simple documentation

Hi Wuzzy, thanks for the reply. Your tutorial looks very impressive, it's just typical that I didn't find out about it until after I no longer needed it. My request for Simple documentation perhaps should have had more emphasis on the word Simple. In the posts above I was sure that my problem was a ...

Suggestion

Yeh, I know there's a separate topic for this but it'll get lost in all the other conversations. When you put your mod into a zip archive why don't you name the folder what it's supposed to be named? eg: the folder in Simple Mobs is called "PilzAdam-mobs-c49cc47" and it needs to be renamed...

Re: Simple documentation

Quick update.

Beer or not, I just had to try another one - Simple Mobs.

Works perfectly once you get the folder name right. Now it's scary and I have to make swords.

Thanks once again for your assistance, Kaeza.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Simple documentation

Is there any? Sorry but I'm very new to Minetest and I've never played the commerciel one either. I'm running 4.9 on Ubuntu straight from thr repository, no crashes, no problems, but also no challenge. I know, I'll install a Mod. Decided to try the Animals Modpack. I get the error "Failed to lo...
