I have added a message when an empty chest is refilled you might have to lower refill rate for chests if they are not refilling. I havn't noticed food not working, it's not lag? If possible can you report bugs/features on guthub? (it makes it easier to manage/track).

What about client-side maps. The client can draw the map based on what the client can "see" and save this on the clients computer.

Awesome! Is snow renewable? Does it regenerate occasionally? If not, I think it might be possible to add with an ABM (like the one that turns dirt into grass) that would test against the perlin noise for if the dirt was inside a snow biome and regenerate it if it was. No, snow is not renewable yet....

You have to use an image editor that supports transparency eg. GIMP, Photoshop or Paint.NET
I believe Microsoft Paint does not support transparency.
