There's a readme included with the source; it's geared toward GNU/Linux and especially Ubuntu, but it should be possible to figure out how to do it; the main difference is going to be how you install the dependencies. You need cmake, make, and the libraries Minetest uses. You can get an idea of the ...

But if minetest doesnt use a single line of code from minecraft, how can they claim "copyright" ? You'd be surprised what kind of crap you can get away with if you have enough money. A few years ago, the Tetris Troll convinced a U.S. district court that things like the shapes of the pieces and the ...

These comments seem to confuse copyright with patents. You can remake the chair, but not if it's patented. There are three types of 'copyright', commonly used. Copyright - things you make. Is: written works, music, games, art. Patents - design of things Trademarks - names, logos. Not quite. Designs...

Can someone CARE to PROVE that the game "is not ready" ? I already did: it doesn't have mobs. We've already seen Minecraft players reject Minetest for this reason. It doesn't matter that Minecraft isn't on Steam; everyone knows about it. Minecraft doesn't need Steam to attract an audience. It's not...

If you wanted to really buy a song, it could cost you thousands of pounds/dollars/etc. Instead you buy A COPY of the song. You don't own the song; you can't give copies to your friends. Information isn't "owned"; only copies are owned. Copyright monopolies, however, are owned. Copyright monopolies ...

If you buy a film, or a game, or a piece of music, you never own it. You own THE LICENSE TO USE IT. Minecraft is no different in this. That's true of proprietary software, but not true of music, films, and video games that aren't downloaded through the Internet. You buy a copy. A license isn't need...

more players = more developers. simple as that. Reality is much more complicated than that. The guys who coined the term "open source" have been claiming ever since then that free/libre and open source projects tend to involve massive collaboration, but this is usually wrong: http://media.libreplan...

I don't know much about the Steam community, but my guess is Minetest isn't ready for that audience. I'm sure a lot of them would compare it to Minecraft in a negative way: no mobs, not as many servers, a lot of servers being slow, etc. I don't imagine they would experiment very much with mods, eith...

gtkRecordMyDesktop sucks. SimpleScreenRecorder is excellent. There is no comparison between these two, and SimpleScreenRecorder is easily the best screen recording program for X right now. (For the record, the command-line recordMyDesktop program is fine, but I prefer a graphical interface.)

Actually, I can think of only one change for realism I would be in favor of: make the player float, rather than sink, in the water. Realistic for most humans (unless you're particularly muscular and skinny, you will naturally float), but I think it would be better in particular because swimming is a...

I don't get why people call the Ouya an "open source" console. Its developers don't champion open source in any way and most of the software on it is not open source. Ubuntu 11.10 reached end-of-life nearly 7 months ago. If you're still using it, your system is insecure.

I couldn't say what the oldest supported version of OpenGL is on Ubuntu 12.04 since I don't really understand the packages, but what do you need OpenGL 1.3 or prior for, anyway?
