The big snails are a neat idea. They could move very slowly, but also leave a trail of slime that could either hurt you or cause you to slip.
And Yes, there needs to be fish. The water is very bare at the moment. But they should be fast, the players would have to make nets or rods to catch them.
I've never had a problem with DM. I usually have enough stone swords for preparation. Plus, they're pretty scaring if they dive out of nowhere. Now if only that had a horrific roar.

There aren't any buckets in Minetest (yet), but what you can do is build that tunnel you want first. Once completed, fill the inside with grass or bamboo entirely until all the water is gone. Then just chip away all the grass/bamboo and you'll have a underwater walkway. It's a little work, but it sh...
