Wait, what? No, no, no!!!
Please don't tell me that client-sided chat commands also start with a forward slash, making them look identical to server-sided commands. WHYYYYY?

Re: RANT: Forbidden guest accounts / empty password

DS-minetest, you summarized very well what is wrong about the current password system. Thanks. At first join, you are only once asked for the password to set. Yes. This causes people to constantly burn account names because of a typo on the “first login” (= silent sneaky registration without warning...

Help included in MineClone 2

Great news! Some mods of the Help modpack version 1.1.0 have been included in MineClone 2 version 0.16.0, so this subgame now includes a proper in-game help about basic concepts and all the items. https://i.imgur.com/lyck3Uu.png The mods doc and doc_items have been included verbatim (that is, with n...

Re: [Mod] Vote Block [vote]

@rubenwardy: We definitely should make it a requirement for mods to have an unique name before they are allowed to be moved to Mod Releases, unless there is a VERY good reason for using a duplicate name. Ignorant modders refusing to use an unique name should not be rewarded by moving their mods to M...

Re: [Mod] Dungeon Treasure Chests [tsm_chests_dungeon]

Yes, both mods do basically the same thing, but the underlying systems are very different. This mod uses Treasurer and is a bit more flexible in selecting random treasures. The possible treasures in the other mod are hardcoded, but it does not need Treasurer. This is an important difference. I felt ...

Re: Post your mapgen questions here (modding or engine)

I want to place a simple 1-node decoration on the floor, namely a carved pumpkin. This is a node which can be rotated (it uses facedir). How can I use the decorations API to randomly rotate a simple decoration? PS: I just added the biome question to the modding FAQ: http://dev.minetest.net/Modding_F...

Re: Nobody knows minetest!

Minetest made a bad start. True, a start, but not a start which will allow us to go forward as you proposed. It is this fear of having to do all the work again, the loss of years of mods, that is keeping us here. I think we need a new start, a 0.5, that is radically different. Why do you want to nu...

Re: [Mod] Treasurer [0.2.0] [treasurer]

Nothing new about Treasurer itself (it is NOT on my list of priorities), but I updated the first post to make it more readable. I figured it was WAY too technical. Now hopefully it should be understandable by non-technical users as well. To use Treasurer, you do NOT have to be a modder. :D If you st...

Re: [Modpack] 3D Armor [0.4.8] [minetest-3d_armor]

I disagree with negative fire protection for wood. Wood is already pretty weak, the player should not be punished for using the lowest tier of armor. And stu: Cactus armor and wood armor have the identical protection. I just checked it for each piece of armor individually. Even the shields are equal...

As I already said in the other thread, I'm not excited about this mod. Re: Who Knows the History of Minetest?

cx384: In the dark ages (0.3 and before), Minetest (then called “Minetest-c55”) had actual mobs, and the firefly was one of them. I think this is what this texture was used for.
