Multiplayer setup help

by Thaizasaskand » Sun Aug 04, 2013 16:54

Can somebody please explain to me how to set up a multiplayer private server (such that me and my sister, who is in the same house can both play on the same map simultaneously) on Minetest 0.4.7? I used to be able to run it on my computer and she would type in "192.168.0.3" in order to connect with version 0.4.5, but I'm no longer able to do this. Can anybody please tell me how to?

Thanks!

How did you do it previously?

I would run the game locally using advanced mode (public on). My sister would type "192.168.0.3" into the address box and "Start Game / Connect" and she would connect to my server. This doesn't work on the new Minetest and we are only able to play on the same server if it is somebody else's.

Your IP may have changed. Check that. Plus, did you actually start a multiplayer game
7:42 PM - Bauglio: I think if you go to staples you could steal firmware from a fax machine that would run better than win10 does on any platform
7:42 PM - Bauglio: so fudge the stable build
7:43 PM - Bauglio: get the staple build

Do you mean like "192.168.0.4" instead of "192.168.0.3"? I tried all of those (it wasn't always "192.168.0.3", but I put it down as this because it was most of the time).

As for the multiplayer game (perhaps I am using the wrong terms to describe the setup; please excuse me if I have): I'd set up a local game under the advanced tab (in 0.4.5) and my sister was able to connect to it under the advanced tab by entering my IP address. In 0.4.7, however, this doesn't work.

Have you checked the Public checkbox?
IIRC that affects it in some way

Yes, I've tried it with and without. It does not seem to work either way. I am able to connect to my sister's computer with 0.4.7 when she is using 0.4.4 but, when we are both using 0.4.7, I am unable to connect to her (and vice-versa).

It works just fine for me with the latest git.
Are you using stable 0.4.7 or 0.4.7 git?
