Nope, 192.168.xxx addresses are local. Find your public IP.
Then you have to port forward it.

I just can't believe that so many people have fast enough computers:

there are 5 level of computer fast-ness in minetest:

Level 0: cannot run minetest because of old graphics card or something
Level 1: not even fast enough to play minetest
Level 2: fast enough to play mintest but not fast enough to access servers
Level 3: Fast enough to access servers but not fast enough to host a server
Level 4: Fast enough to host a server

I have computers in levels 0, 2, and 3. (one in level 2, two in level 3, and one in level 0)

Actually, whenever you play singleplayer, you're hosting a server for yourself.

What kind of computers do you have??? My 7 year old laptop handles minetest rather well: A Lenono/BM x60 with an Intel 940GMA card.

Sometime depending where you live ping can be a problem, if you live far from the server host you will get bad ping. This can make the game near unplayable, i have this problem on alot of the current servers. As im Australian im still waiting on a Aussie server as most the other servers ATM i have a 300+ ping, makes building and mining very hard sometimes. Thats one reason the other is some may like to use other mods that the current servers dont use

level 2 and 3 is lag(ping) your talking about not the PC its ran on, this is what i was saying in my other comment. If you live far from the host server then you will lag, check you RTT by pressing F5. Its not ping but the next best thing to find how much lag you have on the server, anything over 200 can be a real headache to mine or build

Well anyone can join it just means if they live far away they will have more lag then say someone who lives in the USA. I was actually responding to webpagedesigners comment "Why does everybody want his own server? I think we have enough ones...". But what i can say for your problem you need more details with what your doing, what OS are you using? did you port forward? Do you know how to port forward? If using windows did you make a server.bat file and run the server via the .bat file? So many details you need to list before someone can help. Have you read into how to set up a server? Followed all the steps? What is the code your using in the .bat file. Just list off a few things like that and people have more of an idea on how to help, make sure to read the MT server wiki so you cover that side of things first.

The inverse probably happens more often, multiplayer is less resource-demanding to clients.

Now, back on topic. :P

You'll need to forward ports, you can find instructions for some routers here.

Address: your IP address.
Port: 3000 by default, this is the port you will have to forward (in UDP).

Remember: you need to forward your internal IP, not your external one (the internal one looks like 192.168.xx.xx)!

If i knew how to port forward i would help but sorry i dont, nor do i have the time to look into it. Very hard to get help, you are expected to learn it all yourself, anyway what type of server are you looking at running? If its just with a few friends that are local save yourself the headache and use something like hamachi. Its straight forward and easy to use, if you want to run a dedicated server the best place to ask is on another forum, or start up google and search around.

When I port forwarded my old MC server, it was easy and quick, but it differs from router to router.
