same thing was happening on his server. I think someone might have impersonated you. It was 5 hours ago around.

Yeah, I PMed the real VanessaE about it, to check to see if it was her. Whoever it was used her full name like she does on her server, but logged out before I could see if it was really her.

We've had several imposters over the past while, most of which have been lower cased versions of real people on the server. Then today, we had "celeron55" and "0bg_us_" (the letters were transposed AND there was a trailing underscore).

EDIT: VanessaE confirmed on IRC that she did show up on our server by mistake. So that's one less imposter for us to deal with.

oh good. Also we talked in game but I officially want to do this. I am applying for the next open moderator spot. Hopefully enough people join where we need three.

I am working slowly, but steadily on a kick command in the engine. If it gets merged, I think that the moderators should have access to it.

Now working on my own clone, Mosstest.
I guess I'm back for some time.

how about a simple disconnection/client messaging system. That way mods could implement kick, AND other things.

minetest.disconnect(name,message)
This combined with minetest.register_on_leaveplayer() could be very useful.

Isn't that what a kick system would be? A way to disconnect the client?

I am working on that, but it requires C++ changes, which are being annoying. Anyway, your server is offline.

It was offline, but I started it back up before I posted. Why won't Debian just get along with it's NIC? I swear ...

Who wants to donate money so 0gb can get a better server or whatever the problem is gets fixed. @0gb I would donate but my parents stopped my allowance years ago. Now I have to clean the house for free. :/

No need to donate. The bottleneck right now is the Internet connection. Unless you are referring to the total loss of connection that occurs daily. For that, I just need to figure out WHY it keeps refusing to talk to its NIC. Once I know that, it might be fixable.

Like I said previously, if we can figure out how to do this, we can donate servers for failover and/or load balancing.

The world seems to have become corrupted again. I have no idea why. Again, this means we'll have to revert to a backup copy.

JUST when I found time to make progress in the tunnel, too ...

The last two times the server has gone down, the data has gotten corrupted. I'm not sure it's a good idea to even start it up again ....

So does that mean you won't use the map anymore? Or you are not gonna run a server anymore?

The map isn't the issue. The server itself is. Even a new map won't fix this. Until I find a way to get Debian and the NIC to play nicely together, the server is down. If I get it back up, we'll still have our current map.

Okay but it is okay for me to have a new map but I don't know about others. I hope the server goes up soon.

The chances of the server being up tomorrow are exceedingly slim. I'm not even sure getting the server back up at all is an option.

Note that when I say "the server", I mean the hardware/software combination, not the Minetest world. The world is going back up, but how long that will take depends on some factors. I'm trying to get support right now, so maybe the issue will only take a few days to solve. But perhaps, we won't be able to solve it at all. In that case, we'll have to wait until I get a new machine. But I don't have money, and I don't accept donations, so that could be a while.

We'll keep in touch over IRC about getting the server operational. Also, could you possibly give me limited SSH access?

Don't worry. I'm working with 0gb.us to get watchdog ibstalled, and see if that helps. Please stay tuned, and reset assured the server will come back online, sometime...

I will point out I might start up my own custom server, it'll be private though.

Like an account with no sudo? Sounds doable, but I don't know how right now, and I have a paper due at midnight your time. I'll maybe try to set that up later.

EDIT: Oh, wait, I forgot. There's no access from outside my local network.

Hopefully not, but yes, it might.

I'm sorry. I'm doing all I can. The world will be back up, it's just a matter of when.

If watchdog is going to monitor the connection and reboot the server, it won't help. The problem is that the world is being corrupted upon shutdown. Minetest needs to be shut down properly, I need to fix the connection issue. I'm getting help in another forum, as the people here didn't know what to do (being Minetest experts, not Debian experts). Hopefully, this situation will be resolved.

Watchdog can send Minetest a sigterm, prompting what should be the safest shutdown possible.
