Had a problem with, apparently, Dylan spreading lava & water near the spawn point. Cleaning this up, but sdfgffgs is repeatedly killing, preventing this, claiming that I and Doyousketch2 are the griefers.

yeah, dsalt and I spent a good 3 and a half hrs cleaning up all the mess. it was crunchy.

Obviously, you may do what you see fit to protect your server. I was fuming at him for a good hour.

I didn't ask him to come up while I was cleaning all of it up, but he followed, so he got to watch and listen to me lecture about:

- how important it was that I found this server so we could hang out together online, as we don't get to see much of each other

- how he basically screwed his opportunity to do so, because he acted like one of those punk-a$$ kids that I hate

- how the whole point of respecting other people's stuff is because they spent hours / days building these things, and you can't just go and destroy all their hard work in a couple of moments of selfishness, because the rest of the real world won't allow it.

- how this takes time out of our days to clean up all of this mess, and I'm already exhausted from travel, and have better things to do

- that my time could have been spent in better ways, such as coding mods to enhance the game, possibly to stop this sort of behavior, such as:

- - griefer pick : clears out lava rubble 5x faster - but doesn't affect any other blocks.

- - newbie playground : people don't get full interation rights unless they can build in their little segment for a decent amount of time

- - ability for admin to clear all lava crust in their world with one button

there was more, but I'm tired. he can be banned for a month or whatever you deem appropriate.

I wasn't around when it happened. I stepped out for the eve and his grandma was watching him.
he logged on and did everything I told him not to.

no Nintendo DS for a month seems very apropriate to me at the moment...

I talked to sdfgffgs, that whole bit was supposed to be a prank.

As for Dylan5, I found an area that rollback marked as his doing, and also noticed he'd massively griefed playzooki's meseblock castle. Dylan5's interact has been revoked and his last 24 hours' worth of changes have been rolled back.

Thanks to dsalt and sketch for helping with the cleanup before I got on today.

as far as sdfgffgs goes, one time is a prank. two times is annoying,

but 30 + times after repeatedly being asked / told to stop...

that's harassment.

peole go to jail for that sort of thing.

so I'm putting it out in the public, leave me and my kid alone.

i've found out that the open source drivers ATI work better on linux than the official ATI drivers. i'm using a Radeon 4250HD and the current official drivers don't support the card, so if your graphics card is older than the ATI Radeon 42xx series then the open source drivers is your best bet.

Also i'd recommend using Ubuntu or a varient of Ubuntu as they update their packages more frequently than Debian.

shadowwraith - ty, yeah. I reinstalled Debian and that mostly fixed the driver issue. it's using the open-source radeon now, and it does decent that way.

I agree about Debian being a little behind. That's why I'm on testing. It's a little ahead of stable. Ubuntu is 'prolly a little ahead of that in some areas.

Tho I like this one where it's at, 'so I may try that out on the old pc. 'Prolly xUbuntu, 'cuz it doesn't have much mem on it, and I'm fine with using XFCE as a desktop manager.

I had Mint Debian edition on the laptop before the power supply connection broke. That one was smooth. Did ok.

Sorry for the downtime today folks - the server crashed, but being in debug mode I didn't have the auto-restart script running. The cause of the crash was a bogus map data error which caused a small portion of the map to be regenerated. :-/ Fortunately the damage wasn't hard to repair, and nothing was lost.

Since I'm still trying to watch for obscure/rare crashes, the server is still running in debug mode. To that end, if the server goes down I'll have to intervene, get some debug info from it, and restart it manually as before.

Sorry in advance for any further downtime - hopefully there will not be anymore crashes. :-)

Server is now at 0.4.5, though there is no functional difference from the last 0.4.4-dev commit I was running when you asked. 0.4.4-d1 clients and above should work fine also.

The peaceful_npc mod has been removed again, it just isn't stable enough to use at this time (sorry jojo). If you folks find any "unknown object" floating around, just knock 'em down with a sword.
