Discussion: Dedicated high end community server with all working mods?

I've been pondering the idea of the community getting together to bring online a high end community server with all working mods.

However such a server would require a dedicated server setup likely paid. I've been eyeballing ServerPronto as a possible host for such a server but haven't got to look into them yet.

The "Power - Triple Core" plan has:
* Triple Core AMD X3 450
* 8GB RAM-DDR2
* 500GB HDD SATA2
* 10TB Traffic
* 100Mbps Connection

Which should? be enough. That costs about $90 a month or $1080 for a year (likely up front cost). The issue is funding. I doubt there happens to be a member on the forum with a grand to blow so how to raise such funding? Who would have control over the server? Who would be admin? Rules for such a server?

Discuss...

Also check out ServInt (servint.net). My VPS is hosted by them and they're simply awesome. Everything has been perfect so far. They also offer dedicated servers; pricing is very reasonable.

I can try, I have this as my speed, but from past exp. nopt wise for me though.

What you should expect, (if my router dies my speed goes down, and it will get better soon.)

0.30mbits/sec upload can host about ten people (default network settings), which is more than sufficient for Minetest.
Minetest is totally different from Minecraft in terms of CPU, RAM and bandwidth usage.

I only have a family to deal with, and the fact I can almost melt the router.

This is an old topic I know but been browsing around the forum (nothing better to do right now). I think this would be a good idea. Now that Minetest is in 0.4 stable, any plans for this?

Buy/rent a server then host it. High-end servers cost a lot of money, so noone really wants to host an high-end server... we have dozens of servers already. :)
