OldCoder Meowtest

This is a new thread that will track a slightly older world, Meowtest.

I created Meowtest for sfan5 in July 2014. It was initially a test server for Minetest 0.4.10 but we decided to keep it. This is a PVP survival world with a large collection of mods and more creatures than usual due to requests.

At its peak in Fall 2014, the world had more than a dozen regular players, most of them Spanish or Portuguese speakers. They were the ones who requested the creatures and they seemed pretty fond of them:

<diegodavidcape> gtav hola hay zombis, fantasmas y endermans (Hello, gtav, there are Zombies, Ghosts, and Endermans here)
<lunalover> aaaahhh ayada fantasma (Help, it's a ghost)
<diegodavidcape> casi todas mis pesadillas son con zombies y fantasmas los de zombies (Almost all of my dreams are with zombies and ghost zombies)

At the end of 2014, the group was smaller, but included friendly people such as Traveler, his significant other Candy Bat, Crazy Ginger, and Korra (now known as Korra Cat). Presently, it's a quiet world, but a suitable place for building and minor battles.

The world is located at: server minetest.org port 30018

Screenshot #3 here gives you a glimpse of a ghost:

This is a nice little four-level Meowtest house belonging to Furby, Heckmann, and mariego2, two boys in Germany and a girl in Canada.

When I was a kid, you didn't get to play with others in pretty much any country in the world. Times have changed.

Meowtest and some of my other worlds now feature(s) goblins:

Meowtest now includes Cornernote's Critters, Mr. Goat (by several people), blert2112's sea animals, a new Santa mob, and many other mobs.

This is a test of a new modpack named "manymobs" that collects all of the old-API and new-API mobs that I've been able to get to work and that seem suitable for the world.

The mobs have been patched so that they work together regardless of API. Spawn parameters are still being adjusted. The goal is to produce a large but balanced set of mobs, suitable for high-performance servers.

This screenshot shows one of Cornernote's Critters (the pink creature) and Mr. Goat. Santa, another Critter, a bird, and a cow are visible in the background:

This is holiday throne of some type found in Meowtest.

Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
World:     OldCoder Meowtest
Name:      Holiday Throne on The Good Grinch's Hill
Builders:  Maybe Devil Mayhem and MeBirdy
Coords:    250.1, 17.6, 1204.4

And Meowtest now has added monsters to meet the minimum daily requirement of horror.

As mentioned previously, I'm using Meowtest to work on a new modpack that I call ManyMobs. As of today, ManyMobs includes some of npx's mobs. Call them Terror From Turin:

* Dahaka. This is a less destructive version than npx's original, which had the ability to bulldoze buildings.
* Sandworm. It swims through sand to beat the band.
* Enderduck. This hungry fowl will end you.
* Mantis. Two types of mantis and both are fond of you. For dinner, of course.
* PumpKing. Happy Halloween all year round.

I've also added the Snowman and Better Rats from other sources.

Your old Zombie and Ghost friends are still present and running on Mobs Redo so as to better chase you. But to balance all of this, Santa and his friends will fight the monsters for you.

Dahaka, Enderduck, and both types of mantises:

Here you go. Note that the sandworm can swim through sand, as shown here, and also eat it. A few of these will gobble up a typical beach pretty quickly.

max_lag is only 0.32 right now, so it isn't laggy at all. Actually, it's surprisingly fast, especially given the number of mobs generated. The problem is either network or client-side. I don't think it's related to the serialization errors, but it's possible.

There's not much to go on. If you have suggestions relating to debugging, set aside some day when our hours overlap and we can proceed in real-time.
