Has the server been down all day? I got home and it was down. Decided to do some shopping and I come back and it's still down. Did something happen?

The server's map is corrupted in at least several places. The corruption seems to be caused only by bad metadata. I tried to run a program that depended on being able to properly read all blocks on the map. While reading the map's blocks, the program repeatedly crashed on different blocks due to the metadata not being the correct length (not 2 bytes). I do not know yet, if ever, what is causing the bad data lengths.

I have not found a in-game method of deleting a node's metadata. WorldEdit deletes the node but leaves the metadata. That can cause text to 'hang in the air' from a deleted sign. I can however use a database program to delete the bad map blocks.

I created a test server.
Used WorldEdit to turn a 40x40x40 node area into air centered on coordinates 0,0,0.
Set the middle of the air space to chests.
Shut down the server.
Used a database program to find the blocks containing the chests.
Deleted a few of those data records.
Restarted the server and the attached screenshot is the result.

The server did not crash as I half-expected it to. Instead it invoked mapgen to replace the missing areas. That is great. It means I can find and delete any corrupt areas of the main server's map without losing everything. Hmm. The dirt and trees at the bottom of the pit is interesting.

I do not know yet how many blocks of the main map is corrupt but it is at least 20. That is how many I found before I quit in disgust and shut down the computer. Sorry folks. That's why the server was down. I needed a break from computers.

If I do this, this will mean that players will lose everything in the areas that I delete. BTW each block is 16x16x16 nodes in size.

I will NOT do this yet. Maybe someone will tell me of a better way to fix the problem. I also want to edit a perl program so that it won't crash when it finds bad data but continues and maybe gives me a count of how many map blocks are bad. Then I will know how large a problem this is.

I am fairly sure that is an error generated from your client. IDK what causes it. Might be from Unicode characters. As long as the game seems ok.

I will log on in a bit. I have spent the last 3 days working on something that I won't get working as quickly as I had hoped. So I am stopping work on it to recompile the server to the latest code and add baked clay. Two tasks that are wanted and should be easy. Ha! /me knocks on wood and reaches for the salt with crossed fingers.

After baked clay comes, something wrong with craft.
Have recipe collision (Clay and Brick have same recipe) and Clay lump did't cooked into Brick

PurpleOne - Sometimes logging out then back in will fix the skins. But more often, the server needs to be reset or crash to fix them.

The Travel Box was blocked by someone to Friendly Falls. Not sure who, but many players can't get through. Only way to get out is by breaking the travel box and quickly moving to the right. Just wanted to show in case nobody can get though.
