ADMIN's 'Status Report'

I made a big shop that sold everything. But I made a mistake while hurriedly setting prices and messed it up :/ A bronze axe sold for more than a player could get by selling 9 gold ingots. When I saw that, I knew the prices were wacky haha. I guess my including 'labor costs' in making an item didn't help there :)

I saved the shop to a file and set the area to stone or cobble. I will return the shop when prices are 'right'. Meanwhile other players can open shops if they wish. The bank will stay open and determine the price for gold.

Now that I am no longer bogged down on the shop, I will work on other problems that have been accumulating.

Should we have it so that players at spawn can not be attacked? What about while inside homes? Do we protect everything or just have a small protected area in each home? It is fun to break into houses to go sightseeing.

I would like to try adding item frames and some mobs soon. I doubt if I will add any more mods after those. I want to keep the server lean on mods so that mobile users can easily join and play.

I wish I could add more players. I see that many more players try to join but can't because of too many users. My ISP will not allow me to increase my Internet bandwidth without charging me a lot more to do so. The server averages sending 4 times what it receives. If I can believe the graph that I see on Internet speed, my outgoing data rate often peaks at over twice what my ISP states that I am allowed. I just hope that my ISP doesn't decide that my server is violating their 'Terms of Service' and block my server.

I have determined that the problem is with my cable modem. It is either trying to send information to my ISP or that my ISP is trying to send information to my modem. Whichever it is, my modem hangs during this short time. It only lasts for 10-20 seconds but it knocks everyone offline.

I am currently in a fight with my ISP about the problem. The uneducated people that handle my ISP's "lack of help" lines are very good at keeping me away from the engineers that actually know how to fix my problem.

I used to work for this company's president. If he was still alive, he would get another earful about what I think about how well his company provides a service to their community. He was a good man but my ISP is only good at collecting money.

My ISP sent a technician out to my home. He found a cracked splitter on the coax cable leading to my home. He replaced it. He also said that the buried service line coming from their service box to my home is old. They will send someone out to replace it soon. When they do, the server will likely be offline for several hours while they dig up the old cable and connect the new one.

This technician worked quickly. Maybe too quickly. He claimed that a 6db attenuator that I found on my TEMPORARY line back to my computer was there before he arrived. Liar, liar, pants on fire haha. Regardless, that attenuator is mine now. Not that I need it. At least this technician seemed to know what he was doing. Unlike most of the yoyos that I see.

Its a PvP-Server if you cant fight you are wrong. And a nice screenshot, but mostly the killed players uses words like "fack you / motherfuker / bich / ass / ..." or phrases like "who wants to date / who can give me xyz (optionally they ask to be friends or bf/gf ) " or my most favourite phrase :
"are you scared pussy, come and fight" -Idiot, which cant leave the spawn block-

PvP is allowed , but insulting isnt and I know what words are in the chat the most time and I wouldnt stop it too in such a situation

And know be a little bit useful and give a like to the following video like me :

I don't know if your video shows it but I saw what was being said in chat, logged in and kicked two players for cursing and sex talk.
Personally, I cuss up a storm. But I don't do it around kids.
What I don't want is a lot of cursing and any talk about sex in public chat.
I could use a anti-curse filter but it is annoying being kicked for using a word a part of which contains a filtered term. And everyone quickly learns how to get around it.
If the chat starts to get too much, I might have to use a anti-curse filter.
My strategy will be to kick violators with repeat offenses resulting in a ban.

843, I still cannot find my 1st place! LOL I have been searching for a few days now and covered tens of thousands of nodes in a grid, yet it still isn't to be found. Could you make a map of the world and post it please? :)
I remember it being in the north west somewhere. I will continue my search again. Love your server, more videos coming!

Server Shutdown for bug fixes

PostPosted: Sun Jun 12, 2016 21:05

The server has been having an increasing number of bugs and other errors lately.
Some of what I need to do is much easier, and safer for player files and the map, if I do them while the server is not running.
I intend to shut down the server at approximately 10 AM US EST (UTC-05:00) on Monday June 13. The server will likely stay down for at least 2 days. Longer if necessary.
I am sorry for the inconvenience but it is better than having players get mad due to frequent disconnects and server crashes.

Server is now shut down for updates and bug fixes. I hope to see everyone in a few days. In the meantime, go play on some of the other great MineTest servers. Or go outside and enjoy what is called sunshine, exercise, and friends :)

Status:
Surprise, surprise. Here I have been thinking that I needed to either move some files from my solid state drive to my hard disk drive to free up some storage space or buy another SSD. Then I learned that all I needed to do was delete the files in Nautilus'? Trash folder. 15GB freed up :)

Version 0.4.14 server and client compiled. 25,000+ player files have now been reduced to about 800. I am currently working on the mods.

I must admit to spending a short time playing on the ESM server. That was fun.

Mobs are usually no.1 lag maker on servers. amount of LAG you will get as a result of running mobs is approximately
LAG = number of active mobs*mob_complexity/dedicated_server_step

so what you probably don't want:
1.have lot of (>20? >10?) of mobs running around server ( think of increasing the mob count as adding new player slots regarding performance)

2. have complicated mobs that play "chess" with themselves ( for simple mobs look at https://github.com/CasimirKaPazi/mobs_flat), or use other mobs but with low mob count ( see 1.)

3. setting dedicated_server_step too low... mobs and other "thinking" object do their "thinking" every server_step,
experiment with this with values around 0.25... there is really no point in setting this to 0.1s if lag caused by everything is > 0.1s, its like taking on new work before you finish the old one and it just keeps piling up.

In my opinion regarding the player experience the best solution would be just to spawn one mob at a time but for different player every time and make it super "smart", like a real challenge not just getting stuck behind some wall uselessly. Good way to do this would be making mob attack like player attack (how quickly can player with diamond sword kill you? - i bet its less than 20 seconds normal mobs take hah)

Alternative seems to be server with lot of lag and lot of useless mobs not really adding to gameplay experience in good way.

So no hordes of mobs like JustTest had? Though I noticed that a pack of stone monsters would all jump at the same time. Unless a player got close. Then a few or more would attack.

I'll start off with something simple like a cute little furry kitty cat >:) I got either your mob mod or the one maikerumine has.

The server is running with much less crashes. I really think the huge number of player files was the cause. I am using names_per_ip now. I have seen it 'triggered' several times. That should help slow the growth of player files and give me some time to figure out a better way of selecting player files to keep and those to delete. Finding a method of examining the map.sqlite file for prot blocks, city blocks, etc and who owns them would be great. I'll do some 'experimenting' soon.

Right now I want to know why water is turning into stone when I place water sources. Time for me to sit back and look at code :/

It is based on code of original PilzAdam carts and incorporates many fixes, interesting features. I did a lot of testing on ESM and in singleplayer:
+ carts don't stop without reason (at least I never seen it after driving >10000 of nodes)
+ you can turn on intersection (press A or D before intersection), really useful
+ can accelerate cart while sitting in it by punching it
+ when you building a railway, you don't need to carve in mountains 3 blocks height passage since head position was corrected (this is a big deal for builders), and you can ride cart normally in 2 block tunnels without bumping your head into anything.
+ compatible with original carts mod
+ feels much more smooth than carts installed on "Just Test" or "Cash's World", no jitter, or very rare one.
+ it is used on Xanadu and ESM
etc
Be sure to redownload it since there were important fixes recently. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=10172

Also, I see that you are using Vendor mod, if you are looking for better and newer alternatives, there is "smartshop" mod: viewtopic.php?t=14304

Why it is better?
+ with it you can sell 4 items in one block
+ shows items that you sell with slight glow added
+ you can sell for anything, not just for gold
+ no need for chests below (since it can sell 4 items and does not need chest, it uses much less space)
+ admins can sell infinite items iirc
+ does not need money2 mod
+ it is used on Xanadu and ESM

I hope it helps.
