Server hosting

by garywhite » Thu May 19, 2016 07:53

Hello,
I am looking for someone to host my server. It's small at the moment, and doesn't have a whole lot of mods. I am a good builder who has tried using minetesthosting.com's free plan and it's not really that good in my opinion. I am willing to answer any questions that anyone might have, just PM me (cause I'm rarely on IRC, prefer to be in-game)

Get a Raspberry PI, host your server there and you can forget about the power consumption because your alarm clock needs more power. I would like to offer to host a minetest server but this dam-*cough* router's port forwarding is still broken.

In my opinion. their free plan is basically, practically and painfully useless and pointless. No one would be able to get functional or fun minetest using that. no idea why they would even bother offering that plan. three users max? honestly self hosting and VDS/VPS are the way to go those are pretty cheap.

I have used BuyVM.net to host minetest servers. I use the 512mb one for $5.95. It usually runs ok for a small server. I did some testing on Virpus.com and their uptime was good but I didn't put the effort into it to try to run a server to see how it ran they start at $5.00.

These budget VPS are great if you are just experimenting or wanting to run a small server. One catch is to preserve performance some will kill processes inside your VPS that use lots of resources. BuyVM doesn't Budgetvm.com does, owned-networks.com will send you a nasty e-mail if you use lots of resources threatening to suspend your account, and I don't know what virpus.com does if you hog resources.
