Hello world!

I appreciate any help on how to be an owner of server..

I have linux dedicated server.
Need to install and run minetest server and I have tons of questions..

Any tutorial or p2p communication are welcome and I know time costs.

Now... I have own server and running it.
So, I will add some mods on it.

If you have any advice on mods list or want to play with me on server - contact me, I will provide you with ip.

I don't want to advertise server yet.
I'm about to creat a team.. so, any helpers are welcome.

tpr,travelnet,xdecor,unified inventory,unified skins,wield 3d
makes a very lite but fun server that gives users lots of choices and control
simple_protection I prefer for protection. It's invisible.
Everything else depends on what kind of server you want. Creative, PVP?
Creative you'll want homedecor and probably more ores, maybe farming and mobs
PVP you might try swordsplus and shooter.
Start off lite, see how the server reacts with 10 or so users, then work your way up.

Is there a way to make a server for FREE with MODS?

Ofcourse, host it on your own PC (if you have it) =)
So, you don't have to buy a hosting.
All other work you may do absolutely free by your self.

No other secrets, IMHO.

Friends, I have Connection Timed Out Error.. when trying to connect to my server.
I looking for the way to determine the reason.

I mean... how to find the point where this error occure?

I assume you are running your Linux machine behind your home router

First of course, from another PC ,try to connect to it using the game and the internal IP address. On the server you can run `ifconfig` to see your network cards, identify the internal IP, probably something like 192.168.0.*

If you can connect there, then OK. If you cannot, then check your firewall. What distro are you running?

Next check your port forwarding on your home router - if you are serving your minetest on port 30000 of the main Linux machine, oftentimes your home router will need to be configured to forward from 30000 to the port 30000 on the specific machine you serve from. If you are serving on port 30001, make sure everything else matches up too (to avoid headaches). Make sure you adervtise the correct port too, when the time comes.

You need to be aware though, you can only do port forwarding if your home router is directly connected to the internet. If your provider is a WiFi provider (this happens in rural areas sometimes) then your routers is not directly on the internet. If you are in a college dorm, you're on the internal network, not directly connected to the internet.

But I can not install Mobs, have errors.. trying to resolve.

I would also recommend this script for installing the latest Minetest version on a Debian/Ubuntu system:

This pulls the latest minetest version from github. About the glitch, I have the same issue with default:sign. It is fine when placed, but the inventory image is all messed up :(

I have found one interesting bug... I can turn ON creative mode for all players only.
There are two points where I have to manage it:

1. minetest.conf
# Set to true to enable creative mode (unlimited inventory)
creative_mode = false


2. world.mt
creative_mode = false


Second - does not any affect on game. There is no changes after I put true and restart server.
Fisrt - apply creative mode for every player on server.

Any clue?

Not sure why there's a creative mode in the worldmt file I think it gets overwritten by whateevr setting the server starts with from minetest.conf

Creative mode is a server setting, not a player setting/privilege

If you use Unified Inventory, with a server in non-creative mode, you can give a creative priv to individual players (though this is not really recommended..... players without the priv will moan at you about players with the priv being cheaters or not being fair... so don't do it)

Also.. I still get a connection timeout
