The problem is to create fair prices.

I'm suggesting:
Only basic materials: cobble, sand, wood, mese, coal
Ignot as currency:
99 cobble = 2 ignots (side effect of digging)
99 sand = 5 ignots (isn't side effect of digging)
99 wood = 9 ignots
1 mese = 20 ignots
I have on idea for coal.

Or we can make simple mod, which will craft each of these 5 materials into ignots and ignots into these materials.

example:
1 mese > 20 ingots
5 ingots > new "5 ingots" item
4 "5 ingots" > 1 mese
---
2 ingots(ingot;ingot) > 99 cobble
9 cobble(3x3 craft) > new "9 cobble" item/block
9 "9 cobble" (3x3 craft) >2 ingots

But that would cut out us, the shops?

Often the sellers does not have that what the buyer want or they are offline.

Shops could still sell other things like tools, furniture, blocks from moreblocks mod.....
I think only about these five: cobble, sand, wood, mese, coal.

I though a kind of magic chest ...
You places A in chest ... then it removes A and places B

By this way .. this kind of chest can be extended to be a "give" box .. like a "shop" box ...
the owner of the box may teach the box what are the recipe of transformation ... this way ... every player can have its own "give/transform/shop" box..

I know c++, but cant you do it with lua? See the craft help project, that has a custom chest.

And also if the mod was in c then it would not be server side any more, you would have to upload your own version of the minetest program for the person to download
(unless mine test supports dll mods, which is unlikely)

You're right, the mod converter would make that the game would not be fair. Everyone could use the /giveme command as well. Survival should rely on work and cooperation with others. I was wrong.
