FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

For the people that know how to make servers for minetest, can anyone SHOW me what to do? I need to know how to make it run it, add skins, mods, and connect people. In a video if possible, cause wiki not helping and im not so sure our wiki is noob-friendly...

I cant help you. i been trying since three months now and still dont know what to do

Umm if you don't know how to add mods yet, I'm guessing you're not ready to create a server. You need to walk before you can run. First play around with mods and textures without a server until you understand how to install those and are really comfortable with them. Then learn which ones are going to be more of a pain than they are worth on a server (animals=lag, mesecons=crashes, confiers=leaves don't decay, etc.) Once you are an expert at mods and textures, then search for the videos on youtube for setting up a minetest server. Most of it is actually pretty easy. The hard part is where you have to mess with port forwarding on your router.

For the 0.4 version of minetest, Mods are pretty easy to install. It usually is just putting the subfolder into the appropriate folder. Same with textures, just putting the files in the appropriate texture folder.

I know all about mods and textures but I dont know which will lag or crash a lot. All I asked for was help, not to be told to look it up! That's what I did and now I'm here. If you can't tell me how to run one then why answer??
