So what kinds of prices are you wanting to charge, I'm not sure I follow your formula.
I've thought about doing this myself, and my conclusion was the community isn't big enough for anybody to make money selling servers.
1) It's not that hard to setup a Minetest server and most people interested in hosting a server are experienced enough to do it themselves.
2) People who want to host a server and can't figure it out themselves seem to be young people who probably wouldn't have money to spend on a server anyway, and lets be honest if they had money they would probably be playing Minecraft.
3) Excluding the people in 2) this seems to very much be a DIY community.
4) If you are wanting to sell a quality service you can't buy a budget VPS, so I would think you would at least have to spend $60 / month on a VPS. It's not just about RAM, a minetest server can be processor intensive too (depending on mods) so if you want to run several servers on one VPS I would think you would want at least 4 cores. I run a budget VPS ($3.50 / month) with 2 cores and one minetestserver runs decent without any mob mods installed.
That's not to say you wouldn't sell some. For me what I saw as PROFIT $ / TIME = pennies or less in my pocket. However if you have the money to burn on a good VPS or dedicated server and you don't mind losing money then by all means go for it.
Sorry to sound so pessimistic, I wish you the best and hope you or somebody can prove me wrong.
