Hey! I just downloaded minetest and was wondering if any servers were open to multiplayer right now? I've been on this site and having trouble going to the servers listed. Will appreciate any help! Thank =]

launch minetest and go to the multiplayer tab, select show public servers and pick one and jump on. some require a password to make an account.

When I click public, there are none around. So what should I do then?

Some recommendable servers:

redcrab.suret.net 30401
Good to get started. Still the largest one. Lots of good buildings to explore, and also enough place for new players (lots of cities). The important mods for building (moreblocks, homedecor) are available. Have a look at my crafting school if you're new to the game.

minetest.king-arthur.eu
Medieval buildings of very high quality. Below ground, mesecon installations are allowed and constructed. Has the darkage mod running which offers some very nice blocks for building.

linuxgaming.us
Family-friendly server that has money installed. You can sell your surplus cobble and buy building places or materials with it. And you can build your own shop and sell what you mined/grew.

Creative servers:

vanessae.mine.bz
Lots of mods installed and cutting-edge-versions of Minetest running. There are some excellent buildings. Usually needs the latest client to connect. You can play around with carts here.

shadowninja.minetest.net
A flat world (good for building!) and excellent buildings to explore.

Some smaller servers (smaller as in "less buildings, less high building quality", but not as in "less players" - the smaller ones are usually popular):

menche.servegame.com
Has specialities installed and rich plantlife. Small, good houses, easy protection. Could be listed amongst the servers above, except that buildings here are usually much smaller and simpler, but better than on other survival servers.

zenoheld.minetest.net
Some diffrent textures used so the game looks and feels diffrent. Very nice sandstone brick texture. Has simple mobs running around. Chaotic spawn.

There are several more servers out there. Just join them and see what you prefer :-)

If you never get beyond "connecting to server..." you probably do not connect. Either the servers you chose are offline or your OS may block the minetest client from connecting to the game servers. Maybe you just have slow internet? On some servers timeout on connecting is normal and people have to try several times to connect.

If it loads really fast the message : Couldn't Resolve Address comes up -.-* this is saddening me

Have some patience while trying to connect to a server for the first time! On VanessaEs server, with loads of mods installed, 20 minutes for initial connection are normal. Other servers are faster because they have less mods installed or use another way of download. After you connected once, further connections will be much faster because all the textures, sounds and models have already been transmitted.

"Couldn't Resolve Address" usually comes up when you cannot connect to a dns server that resolves names to ip information, or said "internet telefone book" has no ip entry for your name request. Have you tried a server with an ip as connection name? Study this list for some ip numbers: http://servers.minetest.net/. If not specified the port number is 30000.

As stated above, think of 'couldn't resolve address' as 'you just tried to ring a non-existent phone number'
