Very good. Players will now find new, empty land to build on without having to look far, without the existing buildings beeing dammaged in any way (apart from the spawn building itshelf beeing reconstructed). For players who have their house close to the old spawn, a command like /oldspawn would be helpful. Or /spawn 1 or something like that.

I think the players should look themselves away from the spawn. The problem is that many are lazy and do not look.
That is what happens in real life: we have all seen clumped cars in the parking lot and the median just ahead a supermarket, a fair, etc, while the rest of the parking lot is empty! Or people who take the car to go to the next street!
I hate this habit. I'm not happy that we come to move the spawn because the older is overloaded.
Very busy this year too, so do not expect me to be very active on the forum or in game. But I'm not about to drop Minetest forever :)

It's definitely better to have a new place as spawn instead of starting a new map as some less well-tended servers do. And the players joining the vanilla server may be rather new and inexperienced. Beeing able to find a plot soon will help them.

I've added Dan's/my Industrial Lights mod to this server to give us a bit more lighting variety. Only having torches for lighting was getting boring. :-P

Also, I've reworked the lighting on all of the major roads around the new spawn and the main highway to the old spawn to make use of the new lights (well one of the colors, yellow, anyway).

I have moved the server's standard restart time to 1100 UTC (12:00 noon CET, 6:00 am US eastern time) to better coincide with the slowest times on the server. This change affects all of my servers.

30 players at the same time ! The server has become suddenly popular, by a mysterious reason.
When I started playing here last year (08/2014), I was always alone.

The server did have quite a lot of players when it was starting. It's possible that VanessaEs server drop back in the list of available servers due to their regular downtime for maintenance. Anyway...it's a good place for players and very tablet-friendly due to the lower amount of mods. Still a lot that can be built with those!

Indeed, the server has seen a sudden, welcome uptick in traffic. Hope everyone enjoys building!

Meanwhile, I misspoke about the restart time, slightly. The announcement should have read 10:00am UTC (12 noon CET, 6:00 am EDT). Same is true for all of my servers.

I hate time zones. :P

Hello!
I found this some time ago, and I think it deserves more servers with it!
May I ask if it's possible for adding this very simple mod? It's very lightweight, and it can make the server be a little more alive.

Hi again, I have to report a grief (wasn't intended like that I guess, but it was.)
Today I loged in, and somebody destroyed the Basalt Generator at spawn, a sign says it was Deezl who "disabled" it.
The sign says the following:
Attention, I had to
disable the generator
since it was unprotected
and spilled all over.
-deezl

This is quite not very professional, it would be better to protect it. The sign was in an area protected by VanessaE, so I think deezl is an "admin".
If so, I propose destituting "deezl" from it's charge, there are way better ways for solving this problem than destroying a very useful generator. He could, per exaple, protected all but the spot where the blocks are spawned. Thanks.
If any part of my message is wrong, I shall apologise.

Xdecor surely is good (it's inspired by Home Decor actually, a light-weight alternative), but I'm trying not to add any other mods to the server (I'll end up having to change the name if I do :-P ).

Meanwhile, deezl is indeed an admin, and I stand behind what he does as part of helping to manage the server. Given the damage they can do to the immediate area, it's better to tear down a poorly-protected pumice/basalt generator than to assign ownership to someone who shouldn't own it.

Meanwhile, skin installed for superdude.

Then, could you make the generator work again? I can protect it somehow so people can dig the nodes but can't make the lava/water spill

Hi VanessaE ,

Would you consider to release the game as it is here as a subgame for SP players ?
This game is just right for low end pc's and have unique things like the disabled bones and tnt with just the right mostly needed mods that default minetest_game doesn't have.

No, I don't see a need for that. I already maintain Dreambuilder as best I can, and that's enough for me. Besides, it's just minetest_game with a handful of mods added on, really nothing special to it.

As long as you're not messing about in an area where it looks like someone else owns it or plans to build in, you'll be fine. Feel free to re-shape the terrain in your area as you see fit, just try to keep it tasteful and maybe try to blend well with the rest of the landscape.

New: I have added some components of Home Decor to this server: the main homedecor mod, lrfurn, inbox, and building_blocks.

This server is now known as "VanessaE's Basic" server in keeping with reality :-) as it is hardly "vanilla" anymore.
