FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

I wasn't sure if to ask here or the modding section, but since I'm looking for a server I thought here would be most appropriate.

Since mapgen v7 supports custom biomes and terrain nodes, my old physics changes implemented modifiable gravity, while a change allowing textured cubemap skies was added last week, I was thinking: Has anyone made any worlds over other planets? Such as Moon, Mars, or others... be they fictional or based on real space knowledge. Doesn't matter if it's done via mods in minetest_game or a totally different game.

It would be intriguing to see how exploring, mining, building, etc. would be like in non-Earth environments. With different landscapes and terrain materials, a different sky and daytime cycle, a different gravity and walk speed, and other factors. Any server where it's been done yet?

This video of a moon world was recently linked on IRC. It intrigued me to make this thread and ask for more.

This belongs in Modding general. And yes, everything you stated is very much possible. As soon as everything is patched into minetest stable that is.

Yeah, mods are of course needed for this, so it's also a modding question. I am mostly looking for servers where I can play on such worlds though.

Anyway, does anyone know of any? Perhaps the video I linked is from one... I believe I heard about Moon Realm a few times in the past.

AFAIK however, no servers run either of the above mods, unfortunately...

I'm hoping mauvebic will make a space game and server based on my space mapgens, alongside that i will probably release my own much simpler space 'game' (since i'm not so interested in or talented with machines and crafting etc.), in the meantime moonrealm mod is the closest thing to what you describe.

Thanks. I shall try Moon Realm mod, it looks quite promising! Surprised no one made a Mars mod too... if nobody does I shall get to it sometime.
