This thing is totally outdated btw.

This tutorial is up-to-date and works fine with 0.4.13.

You need the default gateway address to get to the router managing site. Explained in step 2.

Ok, I'm confused... I see all of these things saying type "C:\Users\YourName\Documents\minetest-0.4.9\bin\minetest.exe" --server --worldname TheWorldName". Now, how is "worldname" different from "TheWorldName"? Also, I am assuming that I could create a singleplayer world, make it how I want it, and use that as my server world? How do I use that as my server world, but with all the settings? BTW I am actually using Xubuntu but I do recall the commands mostly being the same...

You write "C:\Users\(or wherever you have Minetest)\bin\minetest.exe" --server --worldname And now where TheWorldName is write your world name.

And yes you can create singleplayer world and then use it as however you want on the server.

World name is the parameter name, you must not change it.

When you write --worldname you're saying that the next word after that will be the worldname.

You need your pc to be on if you want to host a server this way. Other than that, you can pay for a domain or a vps to host your server on.

when people starts connecting in my/your server our ip's are saved incase they play again.
Next time they open minetest, the same ip will be saved there. If our ip's keep changing, they would have to search again and again for our serverin the list.

With static IP they can just connect with the same IP everyday

Indeed I wonder how many minetest servers on windows are out there.

Actually some information on how many Mintest servers are on wich OS might be interesting and might give clues to platform related performance issues.

i've got this server working. it's called FUNCIONA_CARAMBA. IP: 10.0.0.64 PORT: 30000

what is IP in step 5?

miloszs wrote:what is IP in step 5?

Well, the most important part of all of these steps are this:
- in the CMD (command prompt) type ipconfig.
- locate the gateway address.
- then, put your gateway address in your link address bar. Then it will send you to your gateway page (the gateway page established by your internet provider - exmp. verizon, at&t...).
- you need to put your username and password. If you don't know your username and your password, you need to call your internet provider. The operator will tell you the username and password.
- then, when you login into your gateway you just need to config the firewall options - or in other cases, The DMZ. There you need to put your IPV4 addres (the IPV4 address appears in the ipconfig on CMD. And Enable it.
- in minetest.config type server_announce=ture.
- in address add your internet ip addres (different than ipv4, that confused me at beginning). You can get your ip address on google typing what's my ip address?, or follow this link: http://whatismyipaddress.com/ . Copy that ip, and paste it on address option at minetest.config.
- and woala - you've got your server on list. But THERE'S ANOTHER OPTIONAL STEP!!!
- If your internet IP it's not static (that means when if you disconnect your router, and turn on again, your inrenet IP will change, then you would need to change the IP everytime) - consider two options:
- Establish your IP static, that it will never change. (I don't recommend that. Not all routers could be able change the internet IP by the computer). But there's one better option.
- Create a Hosting. The hostnames helps you to identify your router, and it doesn't matter if the internet IP change, the hostname will be the same. You can create your own hostname by 'free' in this site: https://www.noip.com/
- you can create at least 3 host names for free but each month you need to reactivate the hostnames - if you want it for free. Also you can pay $24 bucks and they let you have any hostnames you want, for one year.
You need to download a noip softwars where you can enable your hostnames with your internet IP.
NOW, IN MINETEST - THE AREA WHERE YOU NEED TO TYPE THE IP ADDRES, TYPE THE HOSTNAME YOU CHOSE IT. AND WHOALA, YOU'VE A SERVER WITH A STATIC HOSTING. :).
Visit my two servers anytime you want:
- IP: minepastry.zapto.org | Port: 30000
- IP: minemobfighting.ddns.net | Port: 30009

No. Did you remember this topic, who says about create a minetest.exe shortcut? Well, that shortcut with the server commands, will allow you to stay the server online with no need you be joined in server. But if you're meaning about if your router it's turned off. Well, the server depends on it. You need to stay online.

No, that's minetest.conf. Go to bin folder and make a shortcut of minetest.exe.
This is how CraigyDavy said. Pay attention for instructions:
Step 4 – Creating the server launcher:
The server launcher will start the server window and enable people to join the world it will also put the server on the public server list if you have enabled it in the settings.

Go to the bin folder in your minetest directory
Rightclick on the minetest application and select Create Shortcut

Image

Then rightclick on the shortcut and select Properties

Image

Put quotes around what there is already in the target box. It should look something like this:

Code: Select all
"C:\Users\YourName\Documents\minetest-0.4.9\bin\minetest.exe"

Then add this at the end of the target box (make sure that the name of the world does not contain spaces or symbols):

--server --worldname TheWorldName

It should now look like this:

Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
"C:\Users\YourName\Documents\minetest-0.4.9\bin\minetest.exe" --server --worldname TheWorldName

Click apply and ok.

Step 5 – Starting the server and joining it:
This step tells you how to start the server and then how to join the server afterwards.
Starting the server

To start the server all you need to do is click the server launcher you created in the last step. If you have installed minetest in the program files (or any other protected folder) you need to rightclick on the laucher and select Run as Administrator. It should open a window which looks something like this:
Image
Joining the server
If you have the server window open you should be able to join it easily. Open up the game.
You should be able to connect using your external IP. You can find out your external IP by going to http://www.whatsmyip.us. Connect using the port you port forwarded (30000).
Image
If that does not work then you can try connecting using 127.0.0.1. This will tell minetest to connect to a server on your computer. Connect using the port you port forwarded (30000).
Image
You should be able to join the game and so should other people. Enjoy your minetest server!

REMEMBER: JOIN TO YOUR SERVER IN SERVER LIST - NO IN SERVER WORLD OPTIONS.

where i have to copy this settings:
Do you want the server will appear on the public server list at servers.minetest.net.
CODE: SELECT ALL
server_announce = true

What do you want the name of the server to be?
CODE: SELECT ALL
server_name = Minetest Server

The address of the server. You can leave this blank unless you are using a sub-domain or a domain.
CODE: SELECT ALL
server_address =

The port which the server will listen on. This will be the same port you forwarded.
CODE: SELECT ALL
port = 30000

If you have a webpage or forum thread, you can put the link here.
CODE: SELECT ALL
server_url = http://minetest.net

A short description of the server.
CODE: SELECT ALL
server_description = Join this amazing server!

CODE: SELECT ALL

CODE: SELECT ALL

If set to true players will have an infinite amount of items (creative mode).
CODE: SELECT ALL

CODE: SELECT ALL

CODE: SELECT ALL

CODE: SELECT ALL
mg_flags = trees, caves, v6_biome_blend, v6_jungles, dungeons

Stop players from connecting with an empty password.
CODE: SELECT ALL
disallow_empty_password = true

That's on minetes.config . But on minetest 4.14 there are advance settings with a gui options that you can enable these settings more friendly and easy. But the basic for you make your server run: server_announce=true , addres, and port.
