If you're using Minetest 0.4.14, ignore all this copy-pasting. Just go to the main menu - - > settings tab - - > advanced settings(bottom left) - - > Server\Singleplayer - - > there you go.

Go to advanced settings, and enable by double clicking announce server - on address, type your internet ip or your hostname - if you've got one. the default port it's 30000, you can change it if you like. And now it's suppose to be working.

No server setup procedure has ever worked for me. I've had the bloody port forwarded for the last year. LOL.

NO. IT'S BECAUSE YOU MUST LOGIN ON SERVERLIST WHILE THE MINETEST SHORTCUT IS RUNNING THE SERVER. IF YOU RUN THE SAME PORT WITH THE MINETEST SHORTCUT WILL HAVE CONFLICTS - BECAUSE THEY'RE USING THE SAME PORT. YOU MUST LOGIN AS A "SINGLE USER" - BECAUSE YOU'RE THE ADMIN - ON SERVER LIST.

Neh, I've created the shortcut and ran it earlier as well. Never shows up on public list, can never connect with external IP. Server exists, but is not online. I guess I'll try again.

Not if your server shows up on the public server list. In that case you can just click the name of your server and the IP and port will be automatically written.

The IP 127.0.0.1 is an internal IP (only valid from your own computer) - you need your external IP address.

In the server shortcut you left TheWorldName - that you must delete it and type the name of your world - the physical name of the world you create it.

Also, make sure your worldname has no spaces. "My world" will not work for a server. But if you create a world named "Myworld" or "My_world", then it will work.

so, i have to write IP from: http://whatismyipaddress.com/ ?

Not necessary. If you like, click that, but even simply Googling "What is my ip" will give you your IP.

Go to google and type "what's my ip addres" There will appear "your IP is" and copy the number. Paste it on address settings over the section Server/singleplayer. - no the section Client. Then try to run the server.

maybe you did ok, but there's one step
Call your internet provider and ask or your gateway username and password
Did you remember the step ipconfig on cmd? the gateway number, type it on the browser url bar, and it'll send you to your gateway page. There you will need the username and password of your gateway. Then you login, go to firewall options or gaming options - depends where it's located, (in my case was DMZ option) type your IPV4, and enable it. Now the server must be running. on Minetest, the server address you must type the internet IP - http://whatismyipaddress.com/
