Server Performance Question

I am just wondering how many players could the $5 a month service support.
https://www.digitalocean.com/pricing/

Ram: 512 MB
1 core processor
20GB SSD
1 TB transfer - this is the feature that has me interested.

I would be using a linux distro option. Would do either arch or ubuntu.

My win32 server runs with

1.86 GHz Dual Core (2-40% CPU usage)
2 GB RAM (~100 MB usage)
111 GB HDD (~500 MB used with complete minetest folder: world, mods)
Slow home home connection

That means, 1 TB traffic is enough. 1 TB traffic with remote_media on an other server is too much.
I was able to run this server with 20 players at once. Well, with the newest minetest dev, it fell down to ~8 players at once.

I can't imagine you would ever use 1TB of bandwidth running a minetest server. I am at 69GB for the month for my minetest server. Depending on on how oversold the main node for the VPS is you'll probably have pretty good luck running a server with several players.

I'm pretty happy with Owned-Networks. I found a promo code for 2 cores, 1GB ram, 50GB disk space (not SSD :( ), and 1.5TB transfer for $4.99 / month and it has performed pretty well. Looks like the promo may still be valid.

I am really impressed by how far minetest has progressed since i last been here and had a server idea for an mmo survival type server.

with the 1tb bandwidth i think that would take a lot of the lag out, just ram usage and if one processor would really be able to host say 50+ players.
