[Mod] Different textures for players [player_textures]

Hello everyone!
This mod allows each player to use their own textures. All you have to do is put the textures in the texture/ folder of the mod (so the server owner has to do it) like this:
0.4.3 or earlier:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.

player_<player_name>.png
player_<player_name>_back.png

0.4.4 or later:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.

player_<player_name>.png

and the player with the name <player_name> will have this textures.

Note:

If 0.4.4-and-up 3D skins don't seem to be working, and there aren't any errors, it's probably because player_textures/depends.txt doesn't exist in that version of this mod. Create it (it'll be a new file), add the word "default" as its only contents. Save that file, copy the completed mod to your active mods folder and restart your server/game.

Nice, let me check that. Do players with no assigned texture still have the default one ?
I made a few (a lot of?) mods for minetest: here is a list.
See also the MT-Faithful texture pack (work in progress).

Update: the texture names have to prefix "player_" now.

Would it be a nice idea to add some player textures to the repo? So all servers that use this mod will have this textures.

maybee it would be better to split up the texure-repos and the code-repos
someone could write a nice litle database& webfronted for users to upload their textures (c55 would need to host it to have some for of authentication via the forum-accounts) and everybody could pull those texures

Hmm why forum. It would make more sense to auth against the minetest server userdb.

I will develop a repo. Can lua do sockets, i wonder, to syncronise?

It will be compatible with the forum.

This look's cool. But there is just one question: If your on a server will they see your own skin instead of seeing the default player skin
(On a server everyone has the same player skin)

Yes, they will see your skin (as long as it's on the server-side folder). :-)

IF anyone else would like to try, i am trying to use this mod along side the armor mod to set up clothes for characters. I am not having any luck yet but if anyone else thinks this is a good idea feel free to try also. :)

Are there any sites that have RPG sprites that could be used as skins for this mod? Is it possible for this mod to have animations depending on whether the player is moving or not?

I can't seem to get this to work. i edited a character picture and named it player_Nubelite.png and put it into the folder with your player_PilzAdam.png, including the back picture as well.

To test it you need to create a local server and join with 2 clients. One should be named Nubelite and it should have your textures.

No; you don't even have to make one. Some player texture are downloadable from Rubenwardy's player texture forum, and the textures are from the client and not the server. Everyone only controls their own player texture if it is not the default.

sorry for the late response. I did use a server for it. I just tried it with a brand new world. I am using 4.3 if that has something to do with it.
