Good job! Could it be possible use a special tool instead of a node? I think it must be cool a personal radar and better for the gameplay that radar isn't infinite.

The radar is not infinite. He has a radius equal to half the height at which it is placed. Therefore requires a very high tower or something simile.A portable short range radar is not so easy to do.

Intresting idea. If it could be applied to a map as well that would be great!

WOOT!

To my mind this radar should be extremely difficult to get, though ;)
Also, anti-radar would be nice.
Also, players' names shouldn't be visible from any distance if this mod is installed.
Also, different colors for different "commands" would be nice ;)
Can be useful if send_chat_all would be replaced by broadcast_within_radius (I and several other peoples made mods for that). So one would check radar and tell others if there are a spy.
Regards!

What do you think about antennas?

Example:

| <- End of antenna, y=100
|
|
|
O <- Radar, y=0
Range: 100/2= 50 units

...or...

Many kinds of antennas:

Example:

| <- End of antenna, y=4 (4 antenna nodes)
|
|
|
O <- Radar, y=0
Each steel antenna can add 3 units to range, mese antenna 10.

Range:
For steel: 4*3=12 units
For mese: 4*10=40 units

I will consider the antenna hypothesis. Now working to bring the code on github, this will make it more accessible.

I have made a couple of possible designs for 3d nodeboxes as radar:
Vote which you think is best. You will need to test them in-game to see what they look like.

1)
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
        fixed = {
            {-0.187500,-0.500000,-0.187500,0.187500,-0.125000,0.187500},
            {-0.062500,-0.500000,-0.062500,0.062500,0.500000,0.062500},
            {-0.125000,0.187500,-0.125000,0.125000,0.500000,0.125000},
            {-0.187500,0.062500,-0.187500,0.187500,0.187500,0.187500},

            {-0.250000,-0.500000,-0.250000,0.250000,-0.187500,0.250000},
            {-0.312500,-0.500000,-0.312500,0.312500,-0.250000,0.312500},

Watched the nodes that you gave me, actually I was thinking of switching to another model, but I would always remain a face big as a block on which were represented the display of a radar; Also thought to add an antenna that rotates above the display block. I hope I made it clear, in the meantime, thank you anyway because your nodebox are more than what I could have done alone.

I don't mind at all, I just did them for fun to see what I could do, and thought they looked a little like radar, so posted them on this thread.

You could combine this with the signs mod (xyz/pa) to make a non-formspec radar. You could use punch or right click to update the positions, and throw in a ping sound.

There's a bit of a problem with this. Since the range of the radar is always going to be half the height, you won't be able to see players on the ground level of the map if you try to build a large radar tower. The range should be extended, or maybe made into a tall, rectangular shape, although that may be an awkward radar.

Another thing about it is that when looking at the radar, it's telling me how angry it is.
