[Mod] Blox Mod

Image

This mod adds new stone, wood and cobble blocks for construction and decoration.
Unified Dyes or the built in Dyes can be used to craft blocks. I have also added Glow Ore that can be used to craft Glowstone.

Glow Ore will spawn underground in small amounts and gives off light. Mining Glow Ore produces Glow Dust (or sometimes a Glowstone). Glow Dust produces a very small amount of light and can be used to craft Glowstone.

License (code): WTFPL
License (built in textures): WTFPL
Depends: Default, unifieddyes, and a Minetest engine build newer than 2017-01-23.

Download: https://github.com/minetest-mods/blox/a ... master.zip
...or browse the code: https://github.com/minetest-mods/blox
For the 0.4.15-stable version, get this ZIP file.

Avoid using textures with a tile size > 16x16 pixels and avoid using Misa's textures for mods, these are under copyright AFAIK.
Oh and also, avoid using Filedropper, use MediaFire or omploader. ;)

Thanks, I'll sort the textures out, upload to mediafire then edit my post.

Thought I'd point out the latest on my Unified Dyes mod. It now has a total of 89 colors (including black, white, and three greys), and comes with a BASH script to help you generate all of the colored texture files. There's also a modding template along with it that will help greatly in generating the actual nodes and crafting recipes.

Figured you would be interested since you helped kick off the whole idea of it :-)

(please ignore if you already know about it. :-) )

Thanks for the update. I am aware of the unified dyes mod (good job by the way) and I'll be updating the Blox mod to use it i'll also be adding more block colours based on the dyes mod.

Noting the age of your last post, is this mod still being maintained? If so, please consider removing all colored objects from the creative inventory. This will reduce the clutter in the inventory, and we have a coloring machine now (https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?id=6670) to make them easy to access.

Here's my fork of blox, with the proposed change already in place: https://github.com/VanessaE/blox

Sanchez might not come back, so it is a good thing that you made the fork, VanessaE.

VanessaE,
I meant to download your blox package from git, using this link: https://github.com/VanessaE/blox
but it looks like all that's there is an empty readme file.
If its supposed to be like that, I'll go ahead and download it after I get the mod itself, but I dont know how these things work.

I really wondered how an empty readme was going to affect anything.
I thought maybe the contents were magically invisible or something ( who knows what mischief a programming wizard might be able pull on the uninitiated.) : P

Thanks for fixing it, I'm going to go download now.

I found the texture pack and downloaded it already, it makes the blox look so much better.

Hi,

Haven't been around for a couple of months, I really like the look of the color machine mod which has spurred me on to update the Blox mod, version 0.7 should be along soon. ;)

Glad to hear that there will be an update. Please try to keep the namespace of nodes and textures the same when you update and/or add something. Else I'd have to change much withhin the colormachine.

The new nodes all follow the existing naming convention, I'm adding in more wood and cobble blocks to match the existing stone ones. Also the mod now checks for the colormachine mod and if found removes most nodes from the creative inventory.

Hi Sanchez,

Can I get the latest version of the Blox mod through the link in the first post on this topic?
I had already downloaded VanessaE's version of the mod, so I'm a little nervous about ripping it out and installing your updated version, but I'd like to try it out.

Couple of small updates to this mod in my repo: my git repo is now up-to-date with 0.7 finally (thanks to Topywo's link), and I've weeded out all the deprecated "minetest.env:" calls.

This mod has been converted to use the new param2-based colorization scheme.

Start by crafting a patterned block using either wood, stone, or cobble, and a few portions of white dye. Which pattern you get depends on how you arrange those items (see first post). Then, place that white-patterned block on the ground and right-click on it with a colored dye and the pattern will change to that color. In the case of the tinted wood or stone, the whole node's color changes accordingly.

Digging the block gives you back the plain, white patterned one you crafted, and the dye color you last painted it with.

As a side effect of using this new feature, this mod now depends on Unified Dyes, and the entire 89-color Unified Dyes palette is supported now (as opposed to a dozen or so colors prior to this update).

For the patterned objects (but not for the tinted wood, stone, stone square, or cobble), this mod actually uses a mesh node to overlay the colorized pattern texture onto the base material, so that only the pattern takes on the desired color. This may change in the future (and would require another engine update).

You will need a Minetest engine build made on January 24 (actually git commit d04d8aba), or newer, an equivalent update for minetest_game, and the latest git of Unified Dyes, otherwise newly-placed blocks can't be colored and you'll get unknown items for any existing ones.

This mod has been updated to use the revised Unified Dyes API -- you now punch the node while wielding dye, instead of right-clicking.

Players who are using 0.4.15 stable may prefer this version. Newest version is for 0.4.15-dev and beyond.

A few minor updates: Instead of crafting this mod's tinted cobble or tinted stone, now you can just place default:cobble or default:stone and punch them with dye to colorize them.

Similarly, Moreblocks' stone tile, circle stone bricks, regular wood tile (both versions), and iron checker can be dyed to form Blox stone square, stone loop, wood quarter, and stone checker, respectively. If Moreblocks isn't installed, crafts for Blox' equivalents are registered instead.

Digging tinted stone (the kind with no special pattern) will return default cobble and dye, analogous to digging uncolored stone to get cobble.

Also, I put most of the patterned blocks back into the creative inventory. In the interest of reducing clutter, where a Blox item is derived from some other mod's item (as in the substitutions above), don't show the Blox equivalent in the creative inventory. Users should acquire (or craft) and dye the other mod's block instead.
