Not really useful, but decorative:
How about porcelain stuff, like a vase (for flowers) or crockery?

I might release a string of add-ons or something like that for this mod. It's like several mods, but one topic.

See if you can find an application in electrical engineering, like a buzzer. Then, try to implement the object and give it mesecons compatibility. Quartz is famous for the peizio-electric effect after all.

Of course. I'll try it, and if it works, I will release it as an extension.

I was thinking of making a quartz pulser that you can select the delay between pulses.

The mod adds very nice blocks that allow to create intresting houses. However, in survival, where you have to dig all materials you want to use, getting enough quartz for one house is a major undertaking. Quartz crystals in stone do not appear very rare, but as you need four of them for a single block, quite a lot is needed. It would be great to change the output of that receipe to 4 quartz blocks per 4 crystals.

Mauvebic has columns on his server. Doing those out of quartz may also be very intresting. They're round and much thinner than a full node.
A list of my mods can be found here.

Thanks for your ideas, I think I'll go ahead and change the output of the crafting, and make the thinner pillar nodeboxes.

Update:
• Took advantage of my rotate_and_place wrapper, and removed horizontal pillars(since they are possible now with VanessaE's 6d facedir prediction)
I haven't looked at the code yet, but be sure to include an ABM to convert the old horizontal blocks into "normal" ones with the appropriate new facedir. Look at moretrees node_defs.lua, there are a couple of ABMs there that should help.

I'd suggest an alias of horizontal -> regular, but that will mess up people's structures.

Updates:
• Added an abm to convert old horizontal pillars into the new kind. NOTICE: Remember to convert all your old horizontal pillars into regular ones again, as the node registration will be removed in about 1 month.
 • Added support for stairsplus(with an option to disable compatibility)
Why would you need to remove the node registration in a month?

Because it is deprecated and not needed. The point is that the horizontal pillar node is going to be removed within a moth, because it is deprecated(the new one uses 6d facedir). Also, that is exactly what the abm is for. Converting the old pillars into the new ones.

You don't need to remove it. Just add a setting to enable it (which is disabled by default later).
Ah, good idea.

According to WikiAnswers Quartz is used in sandpaper, optics, glass (Hey, idea! Make a cleaner glass by crafting glass with quartz.), liquid filters, circuit boards/computer components (Maybe work with Jeija on this), cement, mortar, and jewelry.

Also, according to The University of Minnesota, quartz was used in tools. Quartz tools could be a step between stone and iron.

I had the idea of making a ticker for mesecons, but I didn't know how to do it. The clean glass idea is good, though moreblocks already has it.

Update:

 • Changed license to MIT
 • Added screenshot.png and description.txt
 • Converted one of the textures that was interlaced to non-interlaced
 • Created the first release (1.0.0)

Also note this mod is now a part of the minetest-mods repository, so the links have changed. If you are still using the git version from my personal repo, please change it to the new one in minetest-mods.
