register_on_placenode() shouldnt be used like this; on_conscruct or after_place_node in the node definition table.

It looks good..

Glitches:
  • If you place 3D torch on ceiling it doesn't turn upside down.
  • If you have already placed normal torcehs and apply 3d mod, torches have wrong orientation

when those glistcehs will be fixed, then it mod will be really great.

All in all, as an Alpha release, this is a very, very nice mod, and I like it instead of Blockmen's one.

Pitriss wrote:can you provide link without that stupid adf.ly ?

I dont see why people hate adf.ly, its only on for 5 seconds. the reason why i use it is because i host the website myself, meaning i have to look after the server, pay for the power and spend time updating the website.

so please support the mods and disable add block on add fly (because you still have to wait 5 seconds with it on)

hopefully you will understand

No I will not download it.. There was lot of discussions about that crap, proving that on opensource site (where everybody works for free) almost nobody will click on such links. But if you like writing mods only for yourself, then it is okay.:)

BTW: there are a lot of better, more complex mods that are free.. ..so, no I will not support you. On web exists many free web hostings, so your "hosting at home" is only your choice.

EDIT:
I'm aware that you provided mirror link.. But I don't like your attitude, so I'm not interested in your mod.. Look at giants of moding community like VanessaE.. Hers moretrees, homedecor etc and bunch of hosted servers are free.. ..then look at you.. you modeled one torch and you are crying about donating to selfhosted website..

This is not about 5s of waiting.. This is all about attitude.. Me and my friend have free jabber server, and even in harder times we didn't thought about payments from people.. ..we worked hard to find some solution, and yes, we found guy who helped..

VanessaE spent a lot time to write such great mods as homedecor and moretrees, she spent huge amount of time by administrating and hosting many servers.. ..everything for free, on github.. ..so why guy who did one polished fart should ask for supporting something that can be solved for free?

/me: *Applause*

Same here. I don't ever want Minetest to have anything to do with commercialism. I also understand the reason you use adfly. I have had to shut down a few things because of lack of support.

Hmm just found out that the free antivirus Avast dose not like my domain name. Don't be alarmed, you can use my server IP to access the website.

found here ;
Download (3D torch webpage.)

I'm working on a fix to see if avast will unblock the website for everyone inconvenience.

hopefully this will help the uses who use this anti virus.

in this update i have added in the upsidedown torch.

hope you enjoy the mod.

also i have desided to remove all the adfly links since they did nothing but annoy people.

A very nice mod indeed. I would recommend this into minetest_game, devs. :)

I hope not. The wall torches use dozens of nodeboxes and the textures aren't 16 × 16.

Calinou,
do you think there's a viable way to reduce the number of node boxes it uses?

Semmett9
Thanks so much for providing non-adfly links.
For many of us adfly simply doesn't work, so, for us its not a matter of not wanting to support developers and content creators with advertising revenue. Its a matter of wanting that download to actually work. I wouldn't have seen any problem with leaving a clearly marked adfly link for those that want to use it,
but Im glad I dont have to try.
Thank you for making and sharing this mod
Do the torches emit light when wielded?
No, nevermind...I'll try it out and see. :)

edit: rant deleted here.

Krock,
Hahahahah..spoilers,
You know I read every one of those. :P

Yes, you can make good-looking torches with only one nodebox and one node definition.

This is controversial due to wall torches being straight and not being vertically offset, but anyway, here it is.

Calinou,

I looked at your example, and now im wondering if your torch could be ceiling mounted, or placed on the floor.
and how would you get minetest to use a light and particle emitting material on only part of the torch without using a second set of mesh faces for the buring end ?

Are nodeboxes mandatory? Wouldn't a mesh (even one mimicing the nodebox version's appearance) be much better from a resources standpoint?

True. Not only that, we could remove the whole idea of making a nodebox appearance. Just have a torch that is tilted and have a blender pro (Jordach) try and make a flame.

@Semmett9

You should rename Depends.txt to depends.txt because if you run this mod on a linux server the filesystem is case-sensitive and mod fails to load (due it is not able to find depends.txt and then it will not include default mod)
