Perhaps real server maps where too big to store them somewhere. Redcrabs map to my knowledge reached ~10 GB by now. The maps you listed seem to be mostly theme-based maps of very limited size.
When I re-visited my first real singleplayer map today, I was sad at what I saw. The building looks plain ugly with the new cobble-texture, my selection of mods has changed, and the nearby desert now looks completely diffrent as well. The new textures are fine as such - I never liked the orange desert sand much, and the desert stone texture was too even for most buildings - but I'd have used different materials had the textures been different back then.
Fortionately, I had a copy of the old minetest_game that was used to create that singleplayer world, and the game supports diffrent "games" very well. So, basicly, I took that old minetest_game, copied it into my games folder, renamed the folder to old_singleplayer, changed a few symlinks for mods used in that world, and changed the world.mt of that particular world to "gameid = old_singleplayer". There are still some problems with unknown items and error messages, but in general it runs well. Some of the unknown items are due to experiments with mods and thus perfectly normal for that world.
I'd like to suggest that you similary do an extra game for older maps with the textures that where used back then. I havn't really played 0.3.x and thus don't know how it used to be.
