Maze

by slopsbucket » Fri Dec 11, 2015 21:13

I didn't design this maze, it comes from Wiki under a creative commons license.

Using Imageloader and Worldedit this only took a very short time to create.

The only trees in the world are part of the treasure to be found in the centre.

Sorry about that last screenshot, I thought people would be more interested in the method rather than the map itself. I've been playing around with this a bit for a friend with kids.

Here's another one, this isn't a finished map for playing. I've added it for the developer's interests because it highlights a bug.

This map was generated by "maze", one of the set of Xscreensavers, as you can see bu the logo in the middle of the map.

Image

I used WorldEdit's Set Nodes feature to convert the entire bottom layer to "dirt with grass" but it only converted on parts of the map that I'd already explored.

Also, as you can see in the next picture, the "strange shadows" bug is still there. The "shadow" extends to 16 blocks above sea level.

Image

I'm not looking for answers to the problem, I can soon clean it up and make it look right. I just thought this might be of some use to the Minetest developers.

And the completed and playable Maze if anyone wants it. It should be quite difficult.

Image

The goal in the middle has 4 entrances but the outside of the maze only has 2 entrances.

There's also water and lava in the goal because it's a flat map with no caves.

Great job ! :)

For the light problem, you can use the mod [mapfix] to erase them

thanks for the suggestion Minetestforfun, but I just use worldedit - set nodes = air

It's actually a layer 1 block thick of no nodes, set nodes air fixes it. You occasionally come across single nodes like this when flying at height 14 or 15, you run into something that stops you and your hand goes dark, move one block in any other direction and you cant see what it was that stopped you.

And a tip for linux users getting an image to load - I've had consistent success using the Gimp to convert to BMP format, compatibility option "do not include colour space information" and advanced option "24 bit".

Cheers,

Andrew.

How about an Adventure Maze?

The maze is now a dangerous place, you should prepare yourself before entering.

The prize in the centre is worth it.
