What is Minetest Lacking?

Minetest is a realy fun, creative/survival voxel game with contributors all over the world.

Personally, I love this game, and installing cool mods is even better. But it also makes the game slow, especially if your runnng it on a Windows Netbook like me.

But there are some things that Minetest lacks.

If i was the creator of this game, I would never leave the computer because i would be adding lots of things to the game.

Probably the first thing i would add is a launcher (like Minecraft) a title screen, and an overall setup like the Minecraft game.

Secondly, if Minetest had 3d torches, animals, and lots of other blocks already installed, it would be really cool. Then the user could enjoy the game to its greatest extent as they would not have to install mods that were already installed into the game.

Third, animated small and regular sized cest nodes.

New wood.

Easy character designing.

More later.

Please comment below and tell me if you like it.

:-)

We indeed totally should have a splash screen like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1ZtBCpo0eU

The thing is, is that MT is not MC, and shouldn't strive to be. Minetest Game is made to be a base, though it's becoming a rather complete base. I don't think that mobs should ever be in default, unless there was a good reson for that. And I like Minetest's start screen, though perhaps having subgame defined theme music would be nice...

The good thing is: you are. You can start creating new blocks just now. And if you don't know Lua, you will learn it quite fast.

Minetest in my opinion is very dark, the lamps, torches and other lighting is not enough.

We need a new lighting engine, then MT will look WAY better.

There's a difference between a lighting engine and lighting shader effects.
The former finds the light level for a node, the later draws it to the screen.

As far as I know, the 16 light levels are hard-coded in, so it's very easily changeable(It's server-side, so you'll only see changes you've made if you started the server.)

It needs minecarts.
Like urgently.
There are minecart rails, but no minecarts.
It's like building airports but not the aeroplanes.

Can we have carts based on monorail? I really like that they have gravity and fall off the end of the rail.
