Wiki: Minetest forks

Hi! I have started with writing a wiki article on Minetest forks: Overview of Minetest forks

And I need your help.

The page currently features Freeminer and Minetest Classic and two dead projects. I just wrote what I knew and the page may be biased as it stands now and the information on Freeminer is especially poor.

If you know something about a Minetest fork, please feel free to update the wiki page directly or write here if you are too lazy for wiki editing.
Information I feel neccessary for active forks include:
  • Start date of fork
  • Initiator(s) of the fork
  • Name of fork
  • Minetest version from which it was forked from
  • Concrete project goals (“Creating a fun game” is NOT concrete! This “goal” applies to pretty much every video game in existance and is therefore useless.)
  • How the fork is (or wants to be) different from Minetest
  • What has motivated the fork (disagree in development philosophy, performance considered bad, rejected commits etc.)

If you have information on any fork (but especially active forks) on any of these points listed above, please say so. Don’t hesitate to throw large parts of my written text away if they turned out to be wrong. Please also include your sources, if you can.

Thanks for your time.

While you're there, make a listing of Minetest Subgames with similar stuff.

Like this one I'm working on?
(still WIP as I am not really happy with the layout and have not yet decided what to include and what to leave out)

This thread is not really helpful, because there is more opinion than fact in this thread. This sentence sums it up:
like2omg wrote:I'll be using quotes here that I am likely to be making up.

The thread does not answer any of the questions. This is one user’s opinion. The assertions which are made about Minetest developers may be true or not (I don’t know.). Also I don’t know what role like2omg played in the fork. I want to know actual differences between Freeminer and Minetest, just not differences as some user views them.

I certainly do not want to turn the list of Minetest forks into a soapbox.

OK, I already linked to that page in the community wiki. This thread shows the raw list of technical changes. So it is useful, yes.

Maybe a short of the most important (!) technical differences between <any fork> and Minetest should be added to the article as well.

For now, I want to collect more information.

Is this link helpful? It deals with the first Freeminer build ever made.

"Freeminer is a fork of Minetest version 0.4.8." - fm was started at ~0.4.8 time, but periodically merges all minetest changes and now contain all 0.4.10 features.
Its not a fork. its spear ;)

...But you have not been merging the changes made in Minetest lately, or have you? Some of the commits you made today are interesting.

I've improved the styling and added information on Minetest-delta.
