Okay!

The only problem with using birch textures for mallorns is the LOTT has birches as well as mallorns... However, I'm sure you'll be able to sort something out!

the wood texture reminds me on the decorative sandstone from xanadu, but the colors you choose are great.
i still prefer the edited birch textures for the trunk, tough. because the LotR wiki describes mallors to be like birches, but with a silvery colour.
since Amaz like the old wood texture, why not use that and apply your colour scheme to it?

as for the real birch trees:
no problem. real birches are white with black stripes, while mallorns are silver-grey.
the difference in colour is enough to make each texture unique.

Have you ever seen Lorien? Even in the book, it is an ancient place, with the bark being nicer and smooth... I went more off of the book and movie for the textures.... :/

hmm... i went after a drawing from the wiki. it's supposed to be the official artwork for the books or so.
if i think of the movie i remember blue, but that probably wasn't lorien ...

i tried to made the birch bark more smooth by reducing contrast.
anyway, i will continue and in the end we can just pick the best of each. :)

As philipbenr said, it's probably best to go with the book rather than the wiki...
I actually like this wood texture! It looks very planky, imho.

In terms of keeping this subgame up-to-date with minetest_game, it is way, way behind. Updating it could prevent problems in the future.

I would very much like to do this... But the problem is twofold. a) I don't have much free time and b) There are things I'd rather work on that this...

I will eventually get around to it (It's been on my mind for some time), but if you want to do it, then you are more than welcome to make a pull request!

This subgame feels laggier than vanilla minetest. To the point where boating feels choppy. Any suggestions on making the experience smoother?

Also does this subgame have working villages? If so, how do I get to them?

No working villages as of now... There are some random spawning structures with habitats generally around them... But that is about as far as it goes.

As for suggestions, I'd you have any extra mood enabled, disable them. Special effects also are a bit heavy at this point, so turning them off helps too.

1.0.0 released!

Version 1.0.0 of Lord of the Test has been released!

This is fairly stable (not too likely to crash, but it's still very possible!), and has a goodish amount of content - thus I've decided to call this the first truly stable release, and switch to true semantic versioning!

There are some new mobs, lots of new blocks, new textures (Thanks philipbenr!) and other bits and bobs that have been added since the last release!

It feels to easy to play the game xD
even mordor is super easy? anyway i used to play this subgame so much until i thought about how easy it is (it would be good for a pvp contest start a timer and get goods from everywhere and fight! :D

Yeah, I agree. I really need to make it considerably harder... Do you have any suggestions of how I could do that?! Increasing the damage mobs do is an obvious thing that I should do. As of now, one really can just "walk into Mordor" :P

I was referring to the bump-mapping and parallax occlusion and all that.

It depends on which server you are on, but I would go back onto the server, and hit "t" or whichever key is your default chat button and ask for interact permission on the server. If neither the way I just said works nor this way, I would suggest looking through the server forum and find the right thread.

hey there,

I'm new to minetest and i think I'm probably just to stupid to use the search-function correctly, but I have a problem and I don't know how to fix it.

When i try to start LOTT i get an ERROR "load and run" from
/...lord-of-the-test-1.0.0/mods/default/init.lua.


I'm sry for being a total noob.

That isn't that much information to go off of. Could you post the whole error from your debug.txt (it should be in the bin or root directory of Minetest) A screenshot of the error or full text would be fine if you copy and paste it too.

Its fine. ;) we get these kind of things all the time, as Minetest is not the easiest thing to work with when it comes to mods.
