Ubuntu 11.10 reached end-of-life nearly 7 months ago. If you're still using it, your system is insecure.

I couldn't say what the oldest supported version of OpenGL is on Ubuntu 12.04 since I don't really understand the packages, but what do you need OpenGL 1.3 or prior for, anyway?

DISCLAIMER: This only applies to the non-server version of Ubuntu.

Currently, Ubuntu 12.04 (April 2012) is the oldest Ubuntu allowed: it's the latest LTS (Long Term Support) for Ubuntu and they already released least one non-LTS into full swing. non-LTSes have updates / are supported for about 6 months after release. LTSes on the other hand, have support to about the next LTS (which should be in April 2014). Just some Ubuntu facts (?) that I hope I remember correctly.

EDIT: If you dislike the new interface, just go with Xubuntu. it's still Ubuntu but with a somewhat lighter choice of things installed by default (including not having that annoying "system menu" as I call it as I hate to have to use searching to find an app in a menu)

dunno what the op needed the 1.3 for, but my old asus netbook has some weird intel graphics adapter that only has opengl 1.4 support - it works ok though if you turn off the smooth lighting, shaders and particles

11.10 uses Unity, too. It was introduced in 11.04, not 12.04.

NOPE frigging static error still exists - and yet again the -82,2,-28 shows up as the place where the error is happening, but i think i am very far away from block (not node but block of nodes) -82,-28, in fact there is nothing in block x=-82 z=-28 but stone as far as i know

100% repeatability - simple (jenga) falling gravel experiment with a big stack o gravel suspended by dirt above a very deep hole - dig the dirt and stand back - standard v6 mapgen, creative mode (no way i'm mining all that gravel) and a pickaxe

Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.

[snipped]

you get the idea...

add: just repeated it again by making a stack of gravel 80 high at (-63,124,-59), then going to the top and putting gravel on the side of the stack so that it falls - it should fall and fill up, but it vanishes with the error:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
[snipped about 50 of me putting gravel at the top of the stack]
22:54:29: ACTION[ServerThread]: singleplayer places node default:gravel at (-63,124,-58)

22:54:33: ERROR[ServerThread]: ServerEnv: Trying to store id=1806 statically but block (-4,3,-4) already contains 49 objects. Forcing delete.

and again i am not a long way from the block of nodes at -4,3,-4? - 63/16 might be rounded up to 4, and 58/16 could be fudged to get 4, but 128/16 is no where near 3

There already were seeds a long time ago, just no GUI implementation in the main menu.
