I hate the new water.

by nikminers » Mon Jul 22, 2013 02:43

Just upgraded from 0.4.4 to .7, so far so good, except for the water....

In 0.4.4 I could place water and it would fill a node and spread nicely, making it easy to create waterfalls and bodies of water. Now in .7 no matter what I do I can't get the water to work right. It fills the bottom 1/5 or 1/6 of the node and barely spreads, and when placeed on a cliff wall it just drops and will not occuppy the node I placed it in. This is a horrible, unwelcome change. How do I restore the water from 0.4.4? Finite water isn't the issue here either, it does this whether finite water is enabled or not.

Also, slightly off-topic; in creative mode in 4.7 I can no longer open doors, only destroy them...wtf??? How do I fix this, it's ruining the experience for me!!

Thanks. It does beg the question though, why didn't finite liquid turn off when I disabled it in the minetest game menu?

The menu has it's own problems.

Doors are opened and closed by right-clicking them.

Unless you've swapped your mouse buttons somehow, punch/dig is left-click. Right click is what you do to place a block, for example.

The finite water is poorly implemented and almost unplayable. I wonder why it is in upstream at all.

If work continues on it, it should function better one day. Minecraft has a mod that does something similar, so that type of water is not impossible. Could the new vector commits be of use somehow?

Yes, I know the MC mod (from a video), thats why I know that Minetest's finite water sucks.

I once had this mod installed (don't have minecraft anymore now), it was quite buggy in some parts. With the minetest finite water I'm more satisfied.
