by Utilisatrice » Sat Feb 18, 2012 20:08

Hi all,

I noticed that the map was slow to update when you advance in super speed, for example, would anyone an idea to change that ?

That tends to happen a lot. That is the stable, so maybe it set up a server and that may be why it is lagging. I really don't know though.

perhaps a stronger graphics card?
Minetest is not Minecraft. Stop trying to make them look alike.

Currently running Minetest 0.4-13 from Debian Backports.

That may be the case @qyron. It works great on my laptop (received at Christmas), but not so well on my desktop (2006)

I'd think it would be more of the processor, not the graphics card.

Yes, when my server cpu thread overloads, the console becomes really really slow.

IF the console HAS NOT written it, then IT HAS not HAPPENED.

My image and media server is back online and is functioning as normal.

It's impossible, I play Star Wars The Old Republic with maximum graphics.

And I also play at Manic Digger (Look Like Minecraft) and the map is updated immediately.

@ utilisatrice

Don't compare things... You may have a graphic that has some compatibility issue with Minetest. It can also be the rendering engine having some problem...

Hi,

Maybe but it's better now with version 0.4.

I notice it as well on three different machines, chipsets, video cards and operating systems. My GTX460 does the same thing my son's nVidia Ti4200 and my daughter's ATI9800. I do not believe it's the graphics engine entirely but also a function of how much of the area you have cached and how much you need to fetch from the server.

To illustrate this:

Teleport high above an area already rendered with free move off. You'll free fall with no hitches.
Teleport high above an area that you've never been to w/free move off. You'll free fall, but it will have small hitches as the game engine interacts with the db.

When I'm playing on my local PC as the server I notice it slightly less than when I play on my server on the network, plus I can watch the CPU core monitors spike crazily during the transition and then plain out when the view is all rendered. Traveling along at walking speed never has the issue.
