Minetest Videos and tools for recording them

by jordan4ibanez » Thu Sep 20, 2012 16:48

Here is the first one: http://youtu.be/07vlgded6Oo

FFMPEG Command: ffmpeg -f x11grab -s `xdpyinfo | grep -i dimensions: | sed 's/[^0-9]*pixels.*(.*).*//' | sed 's/[^0-9x]*//'` -r 25 -i :0.0 -sameq $HOME/Desktop/Screencastin.avi

Sound Recorder: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Video Editor: http://www.kdenlive.org/

More to come!
If you can think it, you can make it.

I did one with gtk-recordMyDesktop, Audacity and OpenShot, also a good combination ;).

EDIT: Also on Arch Linux ;).

Wouldn't it hilarious/awesome if MineTest later down the road will have a built-in video recorder?

If your name is cornernote and you are watching this...

Haha love it. I fixed up the issues in the guide before I saw this, but after watching I did a test to make sure it wasn't crashing the game anymore. I also made the alternate recipe button only show if there are alt recipes.

Hooray! Hummer's doing Minetest videos again! How come you don't use the 64x texture packs? Everyone does videos with the 16x packs. Is it because it's too slow? I tried doing a video on my machine and went from 50 FPS to 1 FPS even with 16x.

That's normal, the output is actually your own framerate, which is what YOU WOULD recieve if you did not use the recorder.

Edit:
I saw that recording in full screen doesn't work only window modus.

--------

I can't record under Windows (CamStudio, Camtasia Studio etc.).
Game isn't recorded (game screen).

Anybody an idea?

OS: Win 8.1

Thanks in advance :-)

PS: Ubuntu is currently not installed because my buddy accidentally had deleted the partition :-(

You should have started a new topic, Paderman.

I liked FRAPS, simple to get going but not enough options.

FRAPS is a good screen recorder, but you have to pay for the full version (the trial only let's you record for 30 seconds)

Sfan5,

Hi. I'd like to learn a little bit about MineMovie but I dont want to mess with my currently installed Minetest.
Is there a topic in the forum where we can go to find out more about it?

I also have had good experience with Kazam.
The dialog for enabling sound recording is hidden, but once you find it sound recording seems to work just fine.

Not to derail this thread too much, but would it be possible to have a separate moving camera, for making movies for example?
Working on a sub-game; mostly based texture packs, adventure and soon chemistry...

gtk-recordmydesktop is the best I have seen for screen recorders for linux. For video editing I like Openshot.

gtk-recordmydesktop? I think you mean simplescreenrecorder. It has tons of options, on the fly resizing, opengl support(minetest) resolution settings, filetype/container options, and much more.

gtkRecordMyDesktop sucks. SimpleScreenRecorder is excellent. There is no comparison between these two, and SimpleScreenRecorder is easily the best screen recording program for X right now. (For the record, the command-line recordMyDesktop program is fine, but I prefer a graphical interface.)

I use BB FlashBack. Great at recording the screen and has comes with a video editor so you can easily edit it afterwards.

I tried simplscreenrecorder but I had some serious problems with it on my 64-bit system.
I'm looking for solutions now, but in the meantime I'm sticking with kazam.

p.s. I only tried it because of the recommendation here.
:)
