Minetest is really missing Dimensional Support. However, the few mods that do add dimensions do so is a simple way. Better underground dimensions would be made by making a layer of air above the terrain, and above ground dimensions can be made that would not need this. (don't forget portals) Also, Minetest is missing a sense of adventure. Adding things like a better entity identifier would be nice, as well as an automatic node identifier(shows info on what node/entity is selected) Also, an in-game crafting guide(hover mouse over item and hit "r" for recipe in inventory) would be incredible. Finally, minigame support would be incredible. Mods should be able to override block physics and player physics (falling, invisibility, whether can break blocks or not, etc) easily.

Player physics can be overwritten. Some mini games are possible - somebody made Tetris in a form spec once. (A form spec is a method of making a dialog window)

There is currently a pull open (by me) which adds this info thing on nodes - it says what their name is, like default:sand. I would also like to add the name of the current texture you are pointing to. Entity info is a little harder as it seems that clients are not told what individual entities are.

It is more of a debug tool. You see it on F5. I might add a more What Am I Looking At type of thing later, but i doubt it will get merged as the devs would rather it was in a mod.

I dissagree. There are tons of mods that add adventure(I use weather, creatures, plantlife, npcf, peacefull_npc & mobf). Vombies alone will scare the heck outta you at night. And Pacefull NPCs give you penty of company if you're sick of danger.

The only reason a zombie would climb a ladder would be to pursue a would-be-victim. Hence this is an act of hostility as the zombie or hostile creature would attempt to attack its victim.

Zombies don't climb ladders for fun: I'm sure even they understand how much a waste of time that would be...

Climbing a ladder up a tower to a control room to launch a missile at a country is an act of war.

What's Minetest still missing over Minecraft?

Probbaly a stable way to use skins, I mean there's skin mods, but there's no way to get the same skin in every single server.

Ahh yes, more obsession with zombies yet again. It won't be so funny when it finally does happen for real. Say no more about them.

Now, in an effort to direct this topic away from that, I simply ask for a minimap feature (though Freeminer has gsmapper in it.)

gsmapper look very nice, but I would like a mix between Rey's minimap and the build-in map system in minecraft, where you have to craft the map and travel to discover the map.

What does that have to do with anything??????

Climbing a ladder up to your farm from your basement to feed your pet pigs some carrots is a non-hostile act just as yours would be a hostile one, but neither have anything to do with the above post.
Also zombies can't think.... xD

There are animals with no brains that are capable of thinking via nerve bundles. Then again, the brain is really just a big nerve bundle.

Jellyfish have a nerve cluster, no brain.
And there are insects that have ganglia instead of a brain, basically, a 'brain' that controls very simple functions. This 'brain' walks, eats, reproduces, and, well, that's about it.

Two questions:
1) Why do blocks dissappear/reappear uncontrollably?
2) Why is it that someone else here with 256 mb ram was able to get 30 fps and i have the same and i only get five?

RAM tends not to matter too much, as long as it is above a certain amount. Processor and Graphics card is more important.

The blocks disappear and reappearing is due to lag, an should only happen when playing on servers. If it happens on singleplayer then something has gone wrong.

Yes its in singleplayer; thats all I play. There were only two instances where it waas bad enough to slow me down:
1) On my 2bg ram laptop i was building a floating island and blocks i put down wouldnt show up after like two minutes.
2) I'm building a huge hotel and every once in a while all the blocks in the hotel dissappear and i can see all my little npcs walking around in the air.
Do you think its my graphics card? I dunno what it is but i can give it to you this week.
I test mines.

No, but I can describe it.
1) All right, so I'm building my 7-level hotel and its been snowing for three straight Minetest days so I am anxious to get the roof finished. But there is unusual lag tonight, and then suddenly every single of the blocks of my hotel dissappear, not counting torches. So I can see torches and NPCs floating in the air. Thankfully I am in flight mode so I don't fall down and eventually the blocks show up again.
2) I decide it would be interesting to make a floating island but the annoying thing is that gradually my pieces of dirt seem to dissappear. Where did they go? I stare hard at where they once were until I realized they weren't coming back. The case of the missing node.

Was that good? Can you understand what is happening to me?
I test mines.

Come on.

Maybe you should take this observation into consideration instead of instantly throwing it away due to it threatening to compromise your self-made illusion of originality.

Stop acting like this is a totally different game than Minecraft, you practically named Minetest after Minecraft. Throwing away a whole category of criticism because accepting it would be you bowing to this fact is destructive in every sense of the word.

I started playing Minetest recently and I've been having a lot of fun, and I think the way the game is set up where even the base game is a mod of the engine is brilliant. But when I go on the forums, I see so many of the devs just shrugging off useful criticism because it compares Minetest to Minecraft.
