I think they have ~ the same speed because both contain the information how it is drawn.

but meshnodes can have multiple textures so its more powerfull, but more complicated

And meshnodes don't have to look like they are made from cubes.

All node boxes are converted to meshnodes when the game is loading, so they have the same speed - while the game is running, not counting loading.
