Linux newbie, how to install on ARM / Raspberry Pi?

by SoundChaos » Tue Feb 10, 2015 04:19

I'm attempting to run this on a raspberry pi 2 with the new ARMv7 quad CPU. From what I've read, people have had the full game working on an original raspberry pi with anywhere between 1-20 fps, and I would love to see how the new device handles it. I can not find any instructions on how they were able to install the game on the RaspPI though. In fact, I can't find any good instructions on how I would install on any ARM device, as the readme installation instructions example appears to be for x86.

Could someone point me in the right direction as to which version I should download for this and how I would install the dependancies? Keep in mind, I know nearly nothing about linux.

The minetest github page lists the dependancies that are needed. I don't know if this will help but you might check this out.

I think you should ask gravelman, he compiled a 0.4.11 binary on the RPI.

When I built the server for my Pi B I just used the same Debian/Ubuntu instructions on the Github page. Works fine assuming you are using Rasbian.

I tried it with the standard Debian/Ubuntu instructions too, but I get about 0-1 FPS. I got the mesa package installed from this post:

viewtopic.php?pid=24077#p24077

and it got me to about 2-3fps... But it feels like it should run at least a little better on the rpi2, not worse.

USE THE HARDWARE MESA DRIVER( that gets a 40fps)
